I'd like to answer to the points you have made.

Maybe MatchCut is a bit too keyboard centred, probably because my personal preference is to start it with the 'hotkey'. But there should be a faster way for people who prefer using the mouse, agreed.
- auto-selection on mouse over (doesn't work for me on 10.6)
At this time, all what mouse over does is to make MatchCut the active application (if that doesn't work for you, that would be clearly a bug).
- only 1 click to paste AND close the window
Right now, one click just selects the item at this time, to allow other functions to be used on the item. This could also be addressed differently , though.
People may want to paste more than one item in a row. To automatically close the window would be counterproductive then. But this seems to be a perfect candidate for a preference setting.
