Doesn't seem to highlight HTML5 correctly.
Otherwise a simple editor that has to few feature to offer which could rectify the asking price.

I can highly recommend Fraise. Free and much better.

Sir,

this is a Rich Text Editor, not a HTML editor. HTML is offered as a little "bonus", the editors main purpose is editing rich text documents.

I will however add more HTML syntax recognition soon, thanks for pointing this out.

Why, for every update, does it say “Release notes were unavailable when this listing was updated.” ??? :(

I don't know why this is the case,I do write the version history but the macupdate staff keep removing it.You can read the history on this page though:

or

Hope this helps you :)

I'm hoping the developer can address this issue. Here's the deal breaker for me: With seemingly every keystroke, WriteIt! 4.4.2, and I suspect earlier versions, dumps a string of useless information to the system log? The following is an example of the entries copied from the console log, endlessly repeating I might add with most every key typed in WriteIt!:

4/10/10 6:02:52 PM Tasks[1486] Not disabled color, will colorcode.

Thanks, I was not aware of this. I used the log entries for debug reasons, I will remove them in the next update.

Curious to know what advantages this has over "Bean" -which, I'm sure everyone here knows, is a free 'rich text editor'? A comparison table might help. Still, can't see myself buying a 'rich text editor' -even at $12. Last money I spent on an RTE was "Schreiben" -which I feel comfortable highly recommending!

Dear Developer, You aren't listening. 30-day trials are common, or a minimum of 15 days. Not tries, days. And, nix on the installer, should be just drag and drop.

Hi,

thanks for your tips. I will get rid of the installer shortly and replace it with a drag and drop Disk Image.

I could never know if a word processor or text editor is for me without many hours of working on it. Only in this way can the good and the bad in a product truly make themselves felt. That's why trial periods for this kind of product typically last for 30 days, not ten launches. The developer's "improvement" in this respect entirely misses the point. This is especially a problem in such a crowded market for this kind of product.

Hi,

thanks for your suggestion. I'll have a look into implementing a time trial.

Same as MacMaria, did not get a decent trial out of it. I have no idea if the program is any good, because it kept wiping me out on my trials. When I got it to open a fairly large Word file, it stalled. Had to force quit it twice - two more trials gone.
Don't ask me for a review, I never got past the stall on file openng
I too, have deleted it from my computer.

The best thing I can say about this app is that it looks good (meaning: it's sweet to the general eye).

Now, lets go on with the other impressions.

First, the trial - you can use it 5 times before being obligated to buy the app. The first time I used it, it crashed. Then every time I saved a file, WriteIt! considered it a launch. Needless to say that after 10 minutes the trial was over.

In addition, from what I could tell, it has a nice research window that allows you to search wikipedia or google. It has no zoom, although it has fullscreen. The html editor looks nice, since it colors the code. Alas, no time (trial) to try it further. That also means no time to import all the different type of files that WriteIt! is supposed to accept... or to export in all the different types.

Bottom line? WriteIt! has one of the worst trials I ever seen on a Mac. The app itself maybe good but, from what I could test, there are better word processors for Mac. And that includes, for instance, Bean that is freeware.

Given the fact that its trial is crippling, I will review it based on that also. That means: 2 stars (and I'm being generous, since many of the supposed features were impossible to test.

Deleted from my Mac.

Sorry to hear this, I made a mistake in the programing. I have now fixed the bug, WriteIt! now only counts once per run and I have increased the number of Demo Tries to 10.

Sorry for the inconvenience. :(
