I have had this application for quite some time. I'm honestly not sure if this really saves power, but it can be really useful when you are a desktop modder, and give your desktop a different shading, with much better looks. Very small app, doesn't really crowd your system, just take it off login when you don't need it, and use it when you do. Most of all, this app never gave me problems. Surely give it a shot.
Excellent app, thanks! In my personal use I do have a (small) flaw however:
I work with laptops which I attach to a large monitor (24"). To be able to work with the monitor with the laptop closed, I need to put it to sleep first, close the lid and wake it up again.
Now, when SmartSaver is already launched (before sleep), after wake up it will dim just a part of the larger monitor, (as if it were still a 15" laptop-screen). The only solution seems to quit and restart SmartSaver.
Now that SmartSaver does not appear in the Apple Menu 'recent items', a 'relaunch' option in the SmartSaver-menu would be great. But maybe the whole 'problem' could be fixed?
Thankful to have found this wonderful utility. Shades stopped working for me with the release of 10.6.3 and there seems to be no solution. SmartSaver works great and has some other great layer features not found in Shades.
Whoops. I commented too soon. This product works but in one space only! What a joke. Even adding it to "every space" in system preferences, it only dims one space. That makes this product pretty much useless for me.
Just what I needed for working in the dark. It dims my iMac screen past the lowest brightness setting which was too bright. Tried other apps but this one looks the best and with most features.

- press CMD + SHIFT +4 (a cursor noramlly apperas)
- then press the space bar.
Normally, the cursor becames a camera, and you're able to select (by clicking) the window you want a copy.
With SmartScreen Installed, that's impossible : the whole screen becomes illuminated ...
