I've done this myself by editing the Info.plist to include:
NSUIElement
1
Although this prevents you from accessing menu bar items like the application preferences, I prefer this behavior, since I like to keep my Dock as clean as possible.
If the dev would include a right-click menu for the menu bar icon, access to the preferences etc wouldn't be a problem and it would allow the Dock icon to be hidden without loss of functionality
I agree. I love the minimalist approach to Itsy, which is unfortunately negated by the big fat dock icon. Add the Itsy menu to the menubar icon and give users the option of turning off the dock icon. Itsy would then be worth five stars, and would then be worth paying for.
A great little Twitter app, but lacking a few features:
- Growl alerts get lumped together ("8+ new tweets") after a certain number of them pile up (it doesn't seem consistent), and @ replies & DMs are bunched in with these. They need to be kept separate so the Growl alerts always appear.
- The "bulk" growl message should only appear after it hit a certain number -- in other words, display X tweets (10?), and then pop up a "4 more tweets" growl alert. I just got one that said "7 new tweets". Why not just display all 7?
- no highlighting of @ replies in the main timeline. Really?
Noting I am suggesting would detract from the minimalist approach of the app. I sent an email to the developer with no reply, so not holding my breath on these.
I find a lot of your missing "features" rather moot
I've disabled growl notifications for new tweets, it's like getting notified when the tide comes in, you know it's going to happen eventually, so a periodic check of the app does the job for me.
highlighting of @mention in the main timeline also pointless as you have a dedicated menu for mentions and an option to disable mentions in the timeline, in the preferences.
Obviously the developer thinks Growl notifications are worthwhile, as they are supported.
And Your preference against highlighting @ replies could be just that - a preference in the app. Typically an @ reply requires your attention, I don't see how a subtle highlight wouldn't be useful.
As a few releases have come and gone without any release note on these items being updated or added, I just assume the dev decided against them. Also why I'm still using Tweetie or Echofon.
I used singlemizer since very first versions and in my opinion it is the only up-to-date duplicate elliminator on mac os.
Application still needs to be heavy polished, but i prefer it to others.
For a long time i was using Tweetie, because it is very clean and its animations is just perfect, but when i saw Itsy - i realized that Tweetie is a little to heavy.
The only feature Itsy is lacking is a support for multiple accounts. In the same minimal vision.
while nicely designed and very very small, echofon current does more for less memory. while presently free that will soon change when pricing is announced
This twitter client is probably THE slickest twitter client to date. If you have a single account, this is the one you want to use. Its very to the point, looks beautiful, is extremely intuitive, and very minimal. I'm a convert. bye bye tweetie.

Check this page for instructions on hiding the Dock icon:

Make sure to edit the preferences beforehand, as you won't have easy access to them after hiding the Dock icon.
