In doing that we left a lean well working, and to all other alternatives, superior firewall to a large software with a lot of good stuff* we did not needed. This did not represent a problem (other from one or two clients messing things up) as VirusBarrier is easily configurable.
What was not obvious in the transition was that we were forced into a subscription system. Earlier the subscription was only about virus/malware definitions, now suddenly (and very quietly) it was the firewall itself! The Intego site is no clear at all about this; 'buy a protection' all over, not 'pay for a subscription'.
In the future we (and our clients) are to fork out 60% of the initial cost yearly (in a one year plan)! Even strange companies as PGP (now Symantech) has a perpetual alternative.
Worse, the reasoning for this is absolute ridiculous, Intego site; 'using out-of-date security software is dangerous'. This becomes completely nonsense
when the Intego protection just stops if you forget to pay!! That must be much worse than being out-of-date. It is only for the $ as I see it.
So, now back to reinstalling latest NetBarrier on all machines an clients, and stop all planed upgrades.
*although in a test run it catches only 4 out of 15 virus (ClamXav detects them all in any package)

I have been running NetBarrier/Internet Security Barrier for some 10+ years across all sorts of systems including very high end high profile web servers. I have had it installed on 100's of Macs including laptops and desktops, intel and non-intel. On some very rare occasions I have had an issue and after rooting it out, it ended up being a problem in Apple's network stack that NB/ISB just uncovered, did not cause.
So after upgrading to 10.5.6 I had a kernel panic with Internet Security Barrier. I also will note that I have been avoiding downloading the update they supplied because I have been on a cellular broadband connection for weeks (iPhone tethered) and did not want to impact my other iPhone brethern or my wallet ;-)
I do have frequent kernel panics but it is NOT NB/ISB at fault. It is clearly the interaction between the bug infested Cisco VPN software and IPv6 (Cisco being the problem).
Long story short, before blaming NB/ISB, Check your kernel panic output. If it indicates the kext for Intego is at fault, so be it. (and paste it here). On the other hand, if the OS or some hobbyware you have loaded is causing the KP, it might behoove the developer to let them know that you can crash their train if you load and configure ISB.
Any developer, hobbyist or pro, needs the steps to reproduce the crash in order to both see the issue and run it through debugging to fix the issue.

I've moved to ClamXav - which is free - and this has been working great for me for several months.

Too late, Intego Internet Security Barrier X6 had been removed from my system. I CANNOT TOLERATE SOFTWARE SUCH AS THIS ONE THAT CAUSE KERNEKL PANIC EVERY TIME I SHUT DOWN MY MAC.
I will never forgive Intego again. I will not ask for refund. But you can be sure that Intego software will never have any chance to touch my Mac again!!!
So long farewell. You have lost your client an I will spread the negative news about this software to everyone
Avoid it if you can. I have turned to Norton Internet Security 4 and it work flawlessly

Malware such as this needs to be EXPLICITLY DISCOURAGED on the Mac. Intego & their shills need to go back to Windows if they do not know how to program or understand Mac internals.
In the meantime, support developers and groups who know how to program, like:
* Little Snitch - Here's your network filter.
* Clamav - Can be installed by any number of Apps, like Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner.
* Pacifist - A pkg / mpkg installer browser. AUDIT what you install.
* Click to Flash - What you really need is a Flash Blocker. The other major security flaw (other than running Windows in Fusion) where trojan horse payloads come from.
Two things burn my hide: Gross misinformation and gross negligence. Judge for yourself: How else should anyone feel given what users are experiencing here AND charging $80 for it?

I don't understand people bouncing around between security apps,
like they're chasing the next great thing.
I am suddenly getting kernal panics that never existed before as well & not Intego-happy about that.
Could it be from running too many security apps concurrently?
Intego recommends you turn OFF the Apple security to use theirs.

Try uninstall and reinstall this software a couple of time. Same problem, kernel panic almpst every time I shut down my Mac. Also, it also cause invalid file count that cause verify disk fail in disk utiolity. I have to boot to sheel mode and use fsck -fy to solve disk structure problem
Why suddenly this software cause problem? Before problem. web threat pop up show that some IP want to do scan port. of my Mac. I blosk it.
From there on, kernel panic all the times.
I write to tech support now. No answer yet. Will post my experience here to share what going on!
