Today it's better to use a web based email, like Tutanota or Runbox. There is no privacy issues and no accumulation of cr..p, and many more advantages.

Many reviews of Mac email clients list Spark as an excellent program. Then, please show me how to sort messages in a thread in descending order? They have the following statement in a help file: "We’re not planning to add the option to disable or change the order of the emails in the threads in Spark for now. " That is, "Spark displays the latest emails at the bottom of the thread, and the oldest messages are located at the top." Seriously? In this age, an email client that does not allow a thread of emails to be sorted, for example, in descending order?

hm Spark lost me after their V3 update on the iPhone. AU$70 per year, and my previously paid version is now crippled with constant upsell to features I don't have. I fear it's just a matter of time till this follows on the Mac. Have a look at Airmail it's pretty good as well and a 3rd of the price.

If Spark supported rules for filing, I would be using it. Until then, it's Apple Mail for me (which is quite excellent in Ventura).

Spark is an excellent app. But the support sucks big time. I went back to using Apple's Mail because I couldn't get my problem resolved.

I tried Airmail prior to this, and Spark is a huge improvement. High marks for reliability, ease of use, and navigation. It would be a plus to be able to hide the calendar feature, I don't use it (I use Fantastical) and it just sits there in my sidebar. The absence of rules is a noticeable negative, but not a show-stopper. Integration with Joplin (an Evernote alternative) would be nice. Overall a great app, and a good replacement for Apple Mail.

Spark is an excellent email app, one problem it has no online local folder storage of email which makes it not so useful. A lot of people don't have access to fast internet to have all mail stored on a server. All the other excellent apps have the store on my mac facility. Microsoft, Airmail, Postbox, emclient, and Apple Mail. If they implemented this I would be happy to switch to Spark. Sadly they seem to have no interest in doing so and prefer you to use there servers. Also the other email app as mentioned as above all store in the standard eml format and can be used by any other email app. Try dragging an email to the desktop from Spark and see what happens. Great interface easy to use but a big limitation with no local storage of emails or a drag and drop to local desktop folders. Cheers

What the heck Spark? Just did your update through the Apple Store and now I can't open it. I've tried different methods, like rebuilding my "permissions" but nothing worked. I am not ready to do a Time Machine restore just yet. What other steps can I take?

I've been using Spark for about a year now. It's fast, reliable and has a nice and easy-to-read interface. The send-later feature is a godsend, and is my main reason for switching from Apple's mail client. But one thing about it really irritates me. It has a bug that messes up pasted plain text in a way that makes it incompatible with most (likely all) text expanders (Typinator, Textexpander, Typeit4me, aText). In short, Spark incorrectly changes the format of pasted text: plain text (without a format) is not inserted in the same font as the text in the mail message, but in the system font. So if you expand any text while composing a message, the expanded text appears in the wrong font size, and you have to reformat the email to make it consistent. It's time-consuming and unnecessary. The Typinator dev confirmed that this is an issue at their end. I pointed this out to them in September and received no reply.

So, tons of people are upset that it's the same name as some old discontinued app, and some are annoyed that it doesn't have rules-based sorting. Okay. One seems irrelevant, and the other is a feature that if you really need, then get it from another app. But you should be rating the quality and features of this app and not crushing it for the absence of one feature you wish it had or the name the developer chose. So. That being said, this is by far my favorite email client. It's easy to set up, easy to manage a lot of different accounts (color-coded and all), and the interface is fantastic. I've been using it exclusively for over a year now. Sure, I'd love rules-based sorted. I'm sure it's on the way. I'd also love to read threads with newest on top... it's not there yet. But in every other regard, it's my favorite.

Lacks rule-based sorting, which is a huge pain. Each email needs to be moved individually. There is no means to whitelist HTML emails (say for financial institutions and the like), so those emails (and the links they contain) are empty. And lastly, there is no means to adjust the size of the text in non-HTML emails, so if you are farsighted, you are forced to read tiny type.

Pretty nice, though there are some shortcomings. - Spam detection is low - Not able to delete one message from a thread of several (or it's not easy to figure out anyway) - Needs AppleScript for automation - Connecting a corporate outlook365 account is a royal pain because the server settings are invisible unless you delete and re-add the account.

Like Canary, Spark lacks rules-based sorting and tagging for new mail. Those are big omissions. Sure, it's completely free, but those are big omissions.

Developer should be required to rename their app. New Domain names are CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP. That should not be an excuse. Copyright still applies, even if the other Spark is free (and there are only 2 not 3, at least on this site).

This has potential. I'm looking for a simple menubar to do app that I can sync between my Macs and an iPod/iPhone/iPad. Spark accomplishes that by using iCal. If I stuck with Spark I'd be happy, but I'd like to be able to add and edit to do's in iCal or Mail (on iPhone/iPad/iPod), and it doesn't seem to allow that. If I add a new to do item in Mail, for example, it doesn't show up in Spark. Conversely, the notes I add to a to do item in Spark aren't visible in Mail or iCal. Also, if I create a group in Spark, it appears as another to do item in iCal and Mail. If the developer could figure out how to improve the integration between Spark and iCal/Mail to address these issues, he'd have a winner app on his hands that I would happily pay for.
