When I first saw this update posted, I thought the Full Screen Globe feature had finally arrived. :(

Very much like the new version and its tab panel for accessing the data. Opens quickly and is stable.

Look forward to having a Full Screen World Map option to complete the package.

Thanks everyone for your comments. We are working hard to fix things... look for an update within 48 hours followed by a more substantial update within 2 weeks.

I want to apologize for my snarky comments in my first post. I didn't realize how unfairly critical I was being in a public forum until later. I'm on steroids for some medical problems, and one of the side effects is that they make people very jittery and aggressive. I shouldn't have just spouted off about the loss of the map feature, but should have instead emailed Xeric to ask about its intentions. I have always been treated well by Xeric and my questions have always been answered quickly because of their excellent customer support. Xeric is a good and responsive company that writes great software. My bad. I've decided not to post anything anywhere until I'm off these steroids.

Great program, BUT... I just upgraded and discovered that a feature that I liked and used a lot has been removed from this new version for some reason. The maps feature has gone missing. I don't like it when a developer REMOVES a key feature in an "upgrade", and charges me for the privilege. So before you upgrade, know that Time Palette is now a lesser program than it used to be. If they were to make one of those late night commercials it would say, "Time Palette! New and Improved! Now with LESS FEATURES that you've come to rely on in previous full-featured versions! More money for less program!"

By popular demand, we are working on re-adding the maps. We found that only 15% of users used Time Palette without EarthDesk so EarthDesk's maps were given priority... we'll fix that for you.

That's great news! Thanks.

I run a lean system so I don't run things like EarthDesk.

Sorry If I came on a little strong in my first post. I really appreciate the fact that you worked hard to get out a Lion compatible version BEFORE Lion ships. I understand the deadlines you were under. Thanks!

Time Palette 6 is essentially a new product having gone from a Carbon to a Cocoa app and using only about 1% of the previous code... and even that had to be tweaked some. With the Lion deadline looming, we didn't want to over-commit and not have something. Look for the Maps to be added back in quickly.

I've been a customer for over 10 years. IIRC, EarthDesk did not exist back then and they did not use the Xeric Design name.
I like their products and their customer support is excellent. I really appreciate that this version is still PPC-compatible, but I can't find a reason to upgrade. Font and size are not available in version 6, or at least I could not find those options. With 11 clocks, I like to use a smaller font. It would also be nice to import preferences from previous versions, instead of having to do the setup from scratch.

I think that the first product of this kind that I used was the Control Strip World Clock CSM, now World Clock Deluxe. These days I use YouControl to track time across 16 cities. Without the ability to use smaller fonts I'll pass on this one.

As mentioned below, it also lacks maps and international weather. Another thing I noticed is that CPU usage is greater with the new version (0.1-0.5, 5 threads vs. 2.8-4.0, 8 threads).

I'll check it again in the future.

We hope to add font size changes in an update soon. We have been under a tight deadline to get this ready for Lion and will be updating this app as much as we can in the coming months.

One reason we can't import your old prefs is a massive change in the database structure and the format of the old prefs file is not really workable in a 64-bit environment.

Buyer/upgrader beware. Time Palette 6 does not include world maps that were an inherent part of Time Palette 5.

From the Developer: "Time Palette v6 does not include maps because we feel that EarthDesk does a much better job of displaying them. However, if a lot of customers want the maps re-instated, we will consider that."

Hence, for the moment, you'll need to purchase Earth Desk if you want to see World Maps. :( I suggest you contact the developer with your feedback. Bring back the maps!

Thank you for the feedback. Adding the maps is certainly something we are looking at and we do value your thoughts.

Also note that besides the lost map, for people outside the US of A retrieving local weather doesn't work anymore.

So why this "upgrade" now? Do a Get Info on the old version (5.7.10) and you'll see it's PowerPC. Lion's release is imminent, which explains it all IMNSHO.

Seems like quite a good programme, with lots of powerful features. Unfortunately the Daylight Saving dates for New Zealand are wrong. The dates were changed about 5 years ago from the first Sunday in March to the 3rd Sunday.

This can be edited in the database.

This is a handy multi-featured app, offering instant check of current weather conditions in selected cities, calculation of great circle distance with multiple intermediate stops, world map and almanac. Great for travellers. Well worth the money. Very responsive developer, and keeps getting better.
