What's New
Version 1.3.0:

IMPORTANT: Dropped support for 10.5 (Leopard). If you're on anything earlier than 10.6 don't update!

  • Database integrity fixes
  • Fix for French localization
  • Arrow keys now work when editing income/expenses table cells to move inside the cell's text instead of jumping to another cell
  • Editing mode for a cell can now be activated by double-clicking on the cell, in addition to pressing the Enter key.
  • Better management of Cashculator database backups.
  • The income/expense and reconcile tables are now non-elastic when scrolling in Lion. Elastic scrolling didn't look good.
  • Better error handling in several cases

Need to have fortnightly buckets, not monthly. Apparently this is coming in the next version, but they won't say when the next version is coming. So unfortunately not useful for me as it stands now, as their workaround is not what I'm after. Otherwise seems a reasonable app.

A very well designed app, very intuitive and easy to use. But without the ability o link to my bank's website and download transactions from within the application, it really holds no utility for me.

If you read what they clearly state on their website, that is NOT what this app is designed to do. It fills a different need which very few finance apps meet. Go buy a standard finance app if that's what you're after.

Many personal finance applications do what Cashculator does - iBank, MoneyWell, etc. They also link to bank's websites for easy downloading of account data. Cashuclator doesn't. Curious as to what "different need" you are referring to...as they all clearly advertise the same (or similar) features.

Wow - finally a nice application for creating a budget! The interface is simple, clean and seems intuitive. The startup tutorial was an excellent introduction to how the program works and only took a few minutes to review. I've always had difficulties creating budgets mostly due to the way most financial programs track or show the show the budgets. I have to agree with a previous comment that the ability to customize icons would be a huge help to a visual person such as myself.Considering this is only a 1.x version, it looks like Cashculator has a very promising future ahead.

In Cashculator version 1.1 it is now possible to edit and assign new icons to categories, among other changes.

I never thought I can be excited about personal finance application, but I do now. I considered all the concept of personal finance applications boring, and used spreadsheets for home finance management until now because all applications I tried were very complex and daunting.

Cashculator surprised me by being very simple and intuitive, and the interactive tutorials walk you by the hand and teach you the various aspects of the application. It took me less than half an hour to learn the application and to transfer all my my spreadsheet information into it.

In my opinion, there are still some small features lacking in the application, like having entries on certain months only, but the developers seem very responsive to user's requests, so it seems they will keep developing this application and add additional cool features :-)

I got Cashculator for 19.95 with a coupon - seems like a good bargain (much cheaper than most other application of that sort).

Regarding previous user comment regarding a way to insert actual account balance - you just enter a number at relevant month in reconcile screen.

The idea behind is really nice - but Cashculator still need more interface refinements and more customization: there's no way to change the category icon or to restore the default ones, to change the text size. The insertion of expenses should be easier to use (it cuts off decimal values btw). The average planning is hard to understand and it seems buggy, as well adding/removing categories sometimes messes the interface (I had to restart it). Overall the software would be easier to use just with some GUI improvements and if more respectful of Apple design guidelines. I will look forward for the next versions before buying it.
I would like to see also a way to insert my actual account balance.

Version now addresses most of your issues with version 1.0, such as custom icons, dealing with decimals and bug fixes.
