Very disappointed. Buggy -- sometimes lets you edit titles of saved pages, sometimes not -- they show up blank, even though when highlighted, you can see the new title is there. Limited functionality.

On the whole, I'm sorry I bought it. I would say it's only useful if you want to save a few pages quickly and don't want to create bookmarks. I'm sure there are better apps out there -- for which I will begin looking.

also: you can't paste login/password for your Instapaper/ReadItLater/Bit.ly accounts: you must type them! :-0

mailed the developer *ages* ago and he promised a fix, but so far...

This type of program is a nice idea. Think it needs:

• Translucency adjustment function

• Window resize / reposition function

• Simpler delete - Command-Del does not delete links as intuitively as it could. Things like this should do stuff like that perfectly

• Browser contextual item - would be faster than sometimes fiddly drag'n'drop. Its got to be mega-easy or there's not much point

• One-touch hotkey - better still, simply one global hotkey to add the page in a browser as link

• Maybe some kind of folders option rather than just tags for those that want that type of organisation

It is a nice idea. Just bought it. It also needs:

• Keyword auto-typing
It seems the keywords are not memorized or have a smart-typing function. If I type in "basketball" for a URL / article, it seems I have to type in all over again for the next one rather than just typing "b" and the keyword is auto-filled. This is a great time saver and finger saver that your program needs.

• Extended Search?
i.e. Is it possible to extend the search capability from not just the URL/title and keywords, but the content of the page bookmarked?

I've had QuietRead Pro for two months and it is totally useless to me. Tagging does not work as it is supposed to. And this is the reason I bought the pro version! I've written to the developer, who was initially quick to respond, but I have heard nothing further from them in almost a month.

If tagging gets fixed, I'll change my rating. Right now, though, it is a one star.

An addendum: The developer has been unable to replicate my problems with tagging. He has been very helpful in trying to get this issue resolved, but to no avail. My frustration showed in my original post above, and is not a reflection on him or the company, just on my impatience.

I probably should not mention this, but he did refund the purchase amount in my case and I've made a donation in his name to a charity for his kindness.

I do hope the issue will one day be resolved, but I will have to try something else in the meantime.

Fantastic way to save temporary URLs as well as archive URLs you don't want to lose in in bookmarks. Integration with Instapaper is genius and works smoothly. Liked it enough to buy a license for the Pro-level features.

Quiet Read Pro is an excellent complement to Instapaper and should appeal to anyone who has scrapbook tendencies when it comes to web browsing. I very much like the UI of the dock mode of Quiet Read Pro. The tagging feature is great, but for ease of use the application could cache the most frequently used tags. Overall, Quiet Read Pro has a simple user interface and is a joy to use.

I do wish that the menu bar mode had an option to turn off the translucency and to adjust how the menu drops down. Standard Mac OS menu bar items drop down to one side of the menu bar icon rather than the dropdown menu being centered on the menu bar icon.

As far as additional features go, I hope that the developer will allow for the creation of multiple collections of URLS, so that I can manage URL sets by topic rather than having to tag everything to keep it organized. Preview images with the option to set the file size of the cached preview would also be a great addition.

The developer was quick to respond to my inquiry about whether Readability will be supported in later versions. Readability compatibility is a possibility but not certain yet. I am confident that the application is under active development and look forward to future features.

"Quiet Read _Pro_" isn't free - Pro is $9.95!

"Quiet Read" is free but the title says "Pro".

Can't have it both ways... That's just iffy. :/

I agree. This is a very Windows-like marketing ploy, and I'm sad to see it creeping into the world of Mac.

Just call it shareware and we all know what's going on right from the beginning. I'm far less inclined to even try a product that goes in for this sort of misrepresentation to get you in.

Please, developers, take note.

Very useful. 1 small problem: preferences don't seem to stick - if I uncheck "Show links count", it'll be checked again after the next relaunch.
