What's New
Version 1.49: Release notes were unavailable when this listing was updated.
I was looking for an inexpensive, easy to use, snippet application for my wife. (I'd been using PTHPasteBoard and iKey.) AutoTyper was a candidate on price alone, as was mySnippets. When I tried AutoTyper on my own computer first, I discovered it so easy to use that I created a bunch of snippets for myself. Even more surprising were its flexibility and its advanced features, such as regular expression parsing, passing results from scripts.
Upshot: It is now my own app of choice for snippet insertion. I bought a family license for $18.99, a true bargain.
This is BEST in its class. I've tried everything out there. TextExpander is the closest thing to this but in my case I need to retrieve and access boilerplates in more than 36 varieties -- and so I need a menubar pull down that shows me my full title, this one does. It also allows you to put your boilerplates into groups that then automatically sort in the menubar -- sounds simple but is essential when you have a lot to choose from. Some similar programs don't give you big edit windows, the window provided my AutoType is very roomy so you can see what you are doing. It is a breeze to change a word or line, or to copy a whole template and carry it over to a new creation (bringing with it any "tokens" you may have set. One very nice feature is the ability to call from one boilerplate another boilerplate. In my case I may have 18 versions of a boilerplate but some parts are static. I can call the static portion from each of the 18 versions and then edit that one piece without the need to go back into the 18 children to make a revision. This program is extremely well thought out and fast. It does not hog my memory or resources. Additionally, like icing on a cake -- the developer is reachable and listens to what you have to say and often will incorporate your good ideas into his work. In my case, his program was so good I wanted to import my TextExpander file. He provided me that, and put it into his program so everyone else coming after could also use this wonderful time saving import feature. It even took all my snippets calling snippets in TextExpander and converted them to Tokens in AutoType -- everything from one version to the next seamlessly intact and saving me at least a day's work had I needed to copy and paste to transition to this SUPERIOR boilerplate program. I use it everyday for boilerplates, and to bring in digital signatures into my documents. Everything I've needed it for I've been able to do, and enjoy it. That's what software is supposed to be, and this is how a software developer is supposed to behave. I used to have to compromise, no more, this application is EXCELLENT!
