SixtyFourSwitcher is a preference pane that makes it easy for users to switch between booting using the 32-bit version of the Mac OS X kernel and the corresponding 64-bit version. The 64-bit kernel is internally faster than the 32-bit kernel due to its improved caching & improvements in the ABI, but the 32-bit kernel has better kernel extension compatibility than the 64-bit kernel.

Isn't Lion 64bit only?

No. Lion only runs on Macs with 64-bit CPUs, but it isn't 64-bit only or else a large percentage of 32-bit apps would no longer run under Lion. The 32-bit kernel still exists in Lion as well.

Still doesn't support my 4GB 2.3 Core2Duo 15". Its supports 64 bit, and none of the other so-called switcher apps support it either. So 2.5 across the board is what you get.

I'm sorry, but Apple made the decision not to support the 64-bit kernel on your computer, not me. I have no control over what hardware is supported and what isn't supported, so complaining about this seems a little unfair.

If your machine has 32-bit BIOS... Apple doesn't support 64-bit booting even if your machine has a 64-bit chip. You would have to hack the BIOS to accomplish this.

There's so much pure crap in this app's description. I couldn't possibly consider test-driving something made by either a terrible liar or a terrible idiot.

I really like that it doesn't mess with the com.apple.Boot.plist file. Simply awesome!
