Doorman is the password generator the world waited for...ok, it isn't, but it is a password generator that you will like.
You can get a random password with the length you wish and restrain the symbols that should be used. You can combine letters in lower and upper case, numbers and special characters.
Furthermore Doorman can generate speakable passwords that are easier to remember because they follow the syllable construction pattern of natural language.
It's nice to see a new password generator being developed, RPG hasn't been updated in 5 years and might be abandoned. Doorman is pretty good but it's not up to RPG's level in a couple of areas: you are limited to no more than 20 characters, which is pretty secure but sometimes I use passwords up to 32 characters for important web accounts; also it is good to be able to choose which characters are not used, some characters can in rare cases cause problems. Other than that is is a nice password generator, and I like the speakable password option and the ability to add or remove from a list of generated passwords. Thank you Mr. Fridge!
Thanks for your positive review.
We never thought anyone could remember passwords longer than 20 character :-) But we will raise the length limit in the next version.
We will also think about adding a character-exclusion option.
I agree with your remarks about Doorman.
I also would like to see another feature included in a future version: a button to copy the password to the clipboard.
Did you ever try Password Maker? It's more complete than RPG and Doorman, giving you a few more password "schemes". (Although it has not been updated in almost three years.)
Please allow me just one more comment...
There used to be another nice application, called Password Builder, but it is no longer available.
But if you use 1Password, it includes its one password generator. (And so does Pastor, by the way.)
Developer you are absolutely right, I could never remember a password longer than, well probably 10 or 15 characters but Password Wallet or 1Password can. Yes they both have password generators built in but they give you very little control.
the mac keychain has a great password generator with many options. Keychain Access/File/New Password Item/ then click the little key at the lower right-hand side and the Password Assistant pops up. in the PW Assistant that pops up you have 5 different type of PW options and manual, with a length of up to 31 characters.
There are currently no troubleshooting comments. If you are experiencing a problem with this app, please post a comment.
