Playground is a minimal browser for web developers that watches a project directory for changes to files based on extension type. Whenver a change is detected it reloads the page. For ease of use, Playground may be started in a project folder from the command line. The Web Inspector is enabled by default for easy javascript debugging.
Playground is great for developers using a web framework working on javascript intensive pages, html, or css.
What's with all these "free" softs that are not free ? This is not expensive, yet it is not free... unless you only deal with html and css in your projects... Please developers do post the true price on here. Thanks.
I have updated the license type to Demo ( I think that's the closest match , other than possibly shareware. I'm not too clear on what the difference is).
If an app does not have a price listed for it on MacUpdate, the price column of the main page (which is normally off, you can toggle it on in your member prefs) will report it as "Free". I think that's where the confusion came from.
Demo vs. Shareware is a bit of grey area -- the rule of thumb we use is that if an app is independently developed or can be converted into the full version simply by registering it, it's shareware (a demo would usually be a feature- or time-restricted "Lite" version... Shareware traditionally always works, but will start to nag you after X many days if not registered and might introduce other limitations).
I did not get the trial to work. Used a HTML file with some javascript added to it and nothing refreshed when i changed something in the HTML or inside the SCRIPT tags. Since the trial version does not let me test it with .php and .js files (what I primarily use) I get the feeling that purchasing this app will only waste my money. Other than that, if it works, it will be a great time saver and a good investment.
i also have the same project with version .9. i created a folder with just an index.html, opened the folder as a project in playground, and loaded the page into the playground browser. changes made to the index.html do not make playground automatically reload.
this application is awesome; it does exactly what i needed!
it will be perfect with the following feature:
* change the window title from "playground" to reflect a page's head & title html tags.
this one is important!! i have to switch to another app, otherwise
suggestions:
* font or whole page scaling
* faster updating
* add py and css extension defaults
* some kind of time feedback to show the page has been or is in the process of updating (for slow scripts)
* window resize presets (800, 1024, etc.)
I've added some basic features that you may have been missing, including back/forward buttons, a url history drop down, and automatic updating to new versions. Let me know if there's anything else you're looking for.
There are currently no troubleshooting comments. If you are experiencing a problem with this app, please post a comment.
