xType (was Presto) helps you type more quickly and easily.
Tired of writing the same text over and over again? Anytime you type text into an application, Presto can help you do it faster and more accurately!
Whether it's your name, your e-mail address, the URL of your blog, your personal address, etc, you probably often find yourself typing the same text again and again. Presto is here to help you save time by 'typing' these frequently used items for you. Just choose your list of abbreviations, and Presto will automatically show you related texts as you type.
What's New
Version 1.3:
Formerly Presto - In January 2012, we changed the name of our apps. If you own an app with the older name, the new version is free! Your preferences will be automatically detected and updated. You will not lose any data.
This is currently showing on their website as costing $41.78 - some of their apps have this price and the rest are showing as $70.59. I guess the price had to be more than doubled to accommodate their current promo of 50% all apps for the holidays. Even so, that still makes this $20.89, almost double the $12 listed on MacUpdate.
All updates are free for lifetime. Divide the price by the number of years you will use it. Plus the prices are based in Euros and the dollar is very weak. Not our fault.
This application was always slow, clunky and unresponsive and its major problem is that it is limited to the font that you selected in preferences. This makes it useless for most applications.
SInce installing Snow Leopard, the application has not function and, the last time I tried to launch it, it sat bouncing in the Dock.
The developers answer to my request for help was that the application is fully compatible with Snow Leopard. Customer support doesn't seem to come high on their list of priorities!
I guess I have to go back to Typinator or try TextExpander.
This product seems Safari 4 Hostile on my machine as it seems to cause Safari 4 to crash when accessing some websites if the product daemon is in you 'Login Items'. Removing the daemon results in the problem going away. Adding Safari to the exclude list does not help. The same problem occurred in the previous product RapidoWrite. So if you seem to be having random crashes with Safari 4 and are using either of these products, I suggest you try removing it from your login list and see if your Safari crashes disappear.
The issue is bizarre and frustrating enough to diagnose that I have placed the bug report here instead of the developers web site so that potential users will be aware of this strange issue before they attempt to try it.

With Presto, you will be able to quickly insert standard greetings, signatures (including formatted text) or phrases into any application. For example, instead of typing your address in full, you would simply type 'Addr1' and Presto would come up with our full address. Once you define an abbreviation, it is available at all times, anywhere text can be typed, no matter what application you are using!
