WeatherCal creates calendars which contain info on current and
predicted weather conditions in user-specified locales. The
WeatherCal system preferences panel allows the user to choose their
favorite U.S. and international locations.
Once set, WeatherCal obtains the current day's weather and four days
of forecasts, and presents the information in iCal as all-day events
which are easy to read at a glance, with additional details
available in a single click. These calendars and events can
synchronize to other computers or to your iPhone or iPod touch along

This is nice, but the same thing is free from Weather Underground without installing any software.
Go to http://www.wunderground.com/ , type in your postal code, and click Go. On the resulting page, right-click (or Control-click) on the ICAL icon on the right hand side of the page over from the location name, and choose Copy Link. Go to iCal, and choose Subscribe... from the Calendar menu. Paste the URL and click OK. You can change the title and refresh frequency in the following dialog. The resulting calendar can be sync'd with an iPhone or other iCal/SyncServices compatible device.
i just bought this. the wunderground weather reports it uss seem to be less accurate than my aviation weather desktop widget. nevertheless this is a great planning tool that helps you prepare for events even outside of your immediate area. it is good to know when i am going to a place a where it is raining, eg.
and the fact that ical integrates with my ipod touch means that if i synch my touch before leaving the house, i get good traveling info without wasting time.
of course the main drawback to this system is that the touch only synchs with one computer, so my daily results remain static unless i set up an ical server at my house, which i never considered doing before. i will wait for iphone OS 3.0 before i dig into that.
a minor problem i have with the set up reflects the way these new weather calendars integrates with the 'organized widget' from i slayer which i keep on my desktop. individual calendars are not identified. this is a problem when you have multiple zipcodes and weather forecasts for each day. in ical itself the calendars are color coded to respective zipcodes like manhattan and white plains,ny so this is less of a problem. the result is i have to use ical sometimes and this takes up too much screen real estate. while i recognize this is an apple gui issue and not a barebones gui issue it still amounts to an inconvenience for the end user which needs to be resolved for productivity purposes that would propel sales of this neat little application.
For ten bucks you get a utility that goes to wunderground.com and snags the iCal feed of the four-day forecast for your area, a feat that anyone can do for FREE. Such a deal!
NIce idea and something I would buy except that is has problems finding locations for me in the UK. Has me living a LONG way from where my post code points. Pity.
