World of Goo is a multiple award winning physics based puzzle/construction game made entirely by two guys. Drag and drop living, squirming, talking, globs of goo to build structures, bridges, cannonballs, zeppelins, and giant tongues. The millions of Goo Balls that live in the beautiful World of Goo are curious to explore - but they don't know that they are in a game, or that they are extremely delicious.
Just a comment. So I fell right into the trap and bought this 1.2 of World of Goo thinking that it must have been updated. Now enter a while back. I already have World of Goo from MacHeist 3 and upon inspecting the URL that I got back then, it links to World of Goo 1.30 just like this updated entry on MacUpdate. It is timestamped in 2008.
I downloaded what I thought was World of Goo 1.2(What made me think it was newer than 1.30?) from BigFishGames but instead I got an installer. Took even more steps to install World of Goo because of this installer that they provide. Thanks! Actually no thanks! They even signed me up for a rebate that will renew each month, all for just signing up! I decline.
Then after finding all this out I suddenly opened TrashMe and got rid of the BigFishGames installer. A bunch of .exe files actually.
Verdict. If you would like a copy of World of Goo then get it from a different channel. Despite the low price it's not worth having a combined installer and gamelauncher.
Hey I don't know how to send a private message so I thought I'd try this instead.
I tried what you suggested in the "Keep Drive Spinning" thread and the finder froze and never created the app. Now I can't use my external Seagate Drives at all. If I plug in the drive, after 3 mins they freeze the finder. Do you know of a way to correct the problem?

This game is amazing! Although I just wasted my money because I bought it from Bigfish and they neglect to tell you that you need there stupid game bloatware installed to even play World of Goo.
This release (76.5 MB) is different than the one I had (76.1MB).
It also more recent (2010 vs. 2008). The differences may be unrelated to the game itself, though. Perhaps it's just part of Big Fish's recent install/register/uninstall application.
Unfortunately there's no way to register this copy unless you bought it directly from Big Fish, which I did not. I uninstalled it and kept my older copy.
Actually I'm not a gamer (shoot me if you like), but I tried out WoG as it was part of the macheist bundle and I couldn't stop playing for hours. This one is not simply a game, it is pure ART!
Amazingly great game. Currently available as part of the Macheist Bundle, which is how I got it. I'd never played the demo or read any reviews of it. I just dove right in.
For an independent game it is incredibly well-crafted. Everything is top-notch, from the sound and music to the graphics and story.
If you're a mac gamer like me, you're probably frustrated by the never-ending stream of "hidden-object" or "time-management" games a certain company craps out every week. These annoyances, which look like they were built in Flash in about a week, cost $20. The mac games market appears split between pricey AAA titles (shooters, RPG, etc) and these crappy $20 Flash-based games. World of Goo is a breath of fresh air. It is a great independent game that is meticulously thought out - and it costs the same as these churned out exercises in frustration. The developer (2D Boy) obviously spent a lot of time thinking through the puzzles and narrative.
Once I sat down to play it, I was hooked. World of Goo is amazingly fun to play. Just download the demo and try it for yourself. Even after you've beaten the game, you'll go back to try to free more Goo Balls.
I'm somewhat a game addict.
I like some games because they are entertaining, others because they help on giving some adrenaline rush and there are a really big list of reasons why I like a game.
But I think that this is the first time that I will say this about a game:
I like World of Goo because it's a really beautiful game.
From the cartoonish slightly "dark" graphic style to the music that helps on creating the mood I think this game was beautifully done.
( For some strange reason it reminds me Tim Burton's "The Nightmare before christmas" atmosphere )
Even knowing that the levels are timed (for score purposes only) I find myself taking some extra time and delaying, on purpose, the completion of them, just to spare some more time enjoying it.
In a world of standardized "fast food" this is a great "home cooked meal" that deserves to be tasted.
Thank you for making such a great game!

World of Goo is amazing. It's a very polished game with diverse gameplay, great sound, beautiful art and a nice interface.
2DBoy released the Mac/Linux and Windows versions all DRM free, which means no code to enter. Just buy, download and play. No activation required. This game is worth the cash and the developers are worth supporting!
You know the drill - you're a serious professional, you don't play games, you use your Mac for serious stuff. Then someone tells you about World of Goo...
Such a simple concept, each level requires that you reach an 'exit' and that you allow the required number of Goo Balls to escape. However, while it's based largely around physics and logic the gameplay is thought provoking and fun. They seem to have got the balance just right. Add to that the colourful graphics, entertaining music and the 'Sign Painters' off-beat humour, this'll have you hooked.
Money well spent if you ask me, and so refreshing to see a game that doesn't involve chainsaws and buckets of blood!
Has anyone worked out how to change the resolution it runs at? When it changes down to 800x600 it screws up all the window sizes of any apps I happen to have open.

Right Click on the game > Show Package Contents > Contents > Resources > game > properties > config.txt
There, you can chage the resolution to whatever you would like it to be.
