Telephone allows users to call regular phones with a Mac.
Telephone is a VoIP program which allows you to make phone calls over the internet. It can be used to call regular phones via any appropriate SIP provider. If your office or home phone works via SIP, you can use that phone number on your Mac anywhere you have decent internet connection.
What's New
Version 1.0.2:
Fixed a crash with some providers when ICE was enabled.
Fixed an issue where account delete dialog didn't disappear.
Requirements
Intel, Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later, SIP provider for VoIP
This is the best sip/voip-phone for me and Germanys arcor.de-voip.
It works well with my HTC RC E160 Headset on a MacBook Pro.
The sound of my voice is a bit tinny for the person I call.
The Integration on OS X is fine and I like the minimalistic (OS X) Appearance.
I didn´t tested Version 1.0.2 (Appstore), but there is a well working previous Version (0.15.2 / Dec.2010) available to download:
I am a new Mac user. I downloaded Telephone and configured my Voip account successfully since it shows me available. I tried to make calls but the problem i face is that my voice is not getting transmitted over the network nor i can hear the voice from the other side. I don't even hear the tone of the bell but the people whom i call do get bells. They answer the calls but we still can't communicate.
I have tried many networks but the problems stays.
Can you tell me what to do about it.
Have tried several "phone app's". None of them has brought me any satisfaction.
To download telephone I have to register on the Appstore?
Mr Developer, why do you want to dissuade potential customers to use your application?
The app is easy to download and install. Easy to configure with the free SIP service I get from Pbxes.org and Google Voice. Easy to make calls, easy to receive them. I was trying to use the soft phone to dial into a conference call, and at first I thought there was no way to add DTMF tones to a call in progress. In the discussion forum, I discovered that you can type the numbers when the cursor has focus on the window for your call in progress. But there is no user feedback to indicate this capability exists, so you have to type the numbers blindly and nothing happens until you hit return. I would prefer a keypad graphic and local audio for the tones as the keys are clicked. Performance is great, price is unbeatable. Nicely done, Mr. Kuznetsov!
i too don't know what to put for "domain." can you add some info so noobs like me know what to do to set this up? i'm new to everything -- mac, the net, voip -- so while i know what "voip" means (even what it stands for), i haven't a clue what to enter for "domain." nor how to get this integrated with some sort of voip provider.
the useful info would be:
1. what to get (and where) to make this work
2. a list of voip provider urls that work with Telephone
3. a way to contact dev if needed.
it looks great, and i see people like it. hopefully i can join them :D
Thank you for the comment. I'll try to make it more clear for the users to find answers to the similar questions.
In order Telephone to work, you need a SIP provider. You can just search Google for ‘SIP Provider' or choose one from our ‘Providers Tested' page (http://code.google.com/p/telephone/wiki/ProvidersTested).
If you want to contact developers, you can join ‘Telephone Discussions' list (http://groups.google.com/group/telephone-app) and post messages there, or you can write directly to me (eofster@gmail.com).
You can choose any SIP provider you want. For example, we already have a number of them listed here: http://code.google.com/p/telephone/wiki/ProvidersTested

I really hate it when otherwise lovely freeware developers turn evil.

First, this utility is reported to be free so why must anyone go to the App Store?
Second, when I try to go to the App Store, I'm told that this item is not available there.
Third, when I still try to access the App Store, Apple tells me to go away because I'm not in the USA.
Way to go, Apple! 96% of the world's population left out in the cold!
