It is not freeware.
It requires a "donation" in order to unlock downloading and exporting videos.

Didn't used it. I hate when people lies.

If your using Google's 2 step verification, you need to use an applcation password. Otherwise, you also need the full email address not the user name.

I believe this happens whenever you do not have any association for the movie files to begain with. You can choose which application your movies open with by opening the get info window on finder for a file that is set to open with YouView, choose the application you want, and click change all.

the developer is quick in replying.
this app is simple yet promising. I love how it plays youtube without flash and unlike minitube it lets me access my account. And thank God the developer thought ahead and wrote add-on for browsers too.

This app rules. No more need for the regular website with all the heat and fan noise. This is an app done right. Really nice.

Really good app.
But for me personally, it misses some key features:

1. Rearranging subscription list and/or adding authors/channels to favorites. I only watch some of my subscriptions everyday, but most of them only once a month or so. Would like to have an ability to separate them.
2. In-app user playlists. So I could queue the vids and watch them on my tv screen while sitting on a sofa.

With those features, I would gladly buy/donate the app.

I have a plan to completely rewrite the application to add support for more services and more video formats and the rewrite will be an open source project if people want to join in and help.

Well, I don't know about this dispute going on below, but I do think so far that this app is actually quite nice. It's got a quick and minimal browser and loads H.264 videos. The beta version he's linked to also includes browser plug-ins for Chrome, Safari, and Firefox that will automatically direct YouTube links to YouView. I definitely prefer watching YouTube in this way. I starting using something called QuickTubePlayer the other day that allows you to drag or paste YouTube links into it to view videos in H.264. I was wishing that it had both its own browser and integration with other browsers, and now I come across YouView with both. I'm also really glad to see Chrome integration with YouView, since the main reason I'm looking at these programs at all is that ClickToFlash doesn't work with Chrome, and so I can't load H.264 videos directly within it (also the YouTube HTML5 beta stopped working today; I'm guessing it has something to do with the layout changes and will come back eventually). I'll keep testing this for a while, but if it turns out as well as it looks so far, I wouldn't have any issue sending $5 to the dev for the extra features and to encourage development.

After trying out the beta for a bit, I don't think it's quite ready for regular use. It won't play some videos and has issues with buffering others, understandable problems considering it's a beta version. I'm happy to say, however, that the current non-beta release has none of these issues and has worked flawlessly for me thus far. It lacks the Chrome integration but still has a great built-in browser. I can't see any reason for the hissy fit a certain user has posted below. I don't know anything about the legalities of donationware versus shareware, but the free version of this app works perfectly well for browsing and viewing YouTube videos in H.264, and I hardly think that $5 is too much to ask to unlock the other features.

Can you possibly let me know of those videos which didn't work in the beta? There is a contact developer menu in the application that'll let you tell me of bugs and other things so I can fix it.

Thanks,
Mr. Gecko

OK, I didn't realize that you're a "kid" (your term, however you define it). Anyway, let's assume you are a kid who loves writing software and that's all great. Anything that may be amiss might be chalked up to just lack of experience. I'll respectfully decline to buy YouView because the other program is working great and it's free. I do think I made some good points, but I also realize I waste too much time trying to be right. Let's call it a truce, if you're willing, and I hope you'll keep writing great software-- just as long as you' don't do it for Microsoft. Good luck in your business. I'm going to go bake a lousy frozen pizza.

Ok, thanks. I will for sure never move to the dark side as all they do is get their ideas form Apple and make it all look shiny and distracting.
