I have really wanted to like this for quite a while now, but I've given up. There are just too many deficiencies and unsolved problems in Snow Leopard. The menubar icon stickiness is not fully solved by the workaround, and it should never have needed a workaround in the first place -- no other apps do, so this developer isn't quite doing things the Snow Leo way. As a menubar launcher it should not have any menubar presence other than the icon, but it's got all the menubar menus of a full-GUI app, and it's a pain to get it to hide them AND hide its dock icon, which is major league half-assedness. The folder and file icons used in the drop-down menu are neither Mac-appropriate nor Snow Leopard-appropriate, and offering Windows MP, Vista and Ubuntu alternatives is just pure craziness (especially since some of those are wrong too). Furthermore, the icons are all too big, but no size options are available.

There are other problems too, but those I've listed already are such deal breakers that it's useless to list them. IMHO, the only things the dev got right are the nice hawk icon, the price (thanks for that), and the default list of files/folders in the drop-down menu.

Since my earlier recommendation of FruitMenu over Hawkscope, I have dumped that in favour of the wonderful FinderPop, which was recently re-released for SL and which beats the pants off the competition.

Great but that dock icon simply must go, there is no need for it.

I think I'll be sticking with FruitMenu, thanks- not free like Hawkscope but excellent; reliable, highly configurable and lives under the Apple menu, where it should be.

This is a cross platform application and the description text is shared among all versions, Windows, Linux and Mac, that's why there is a "system tray" term. Another reason for a reference to "system tray" is that it's implemented with Eclipse/SWT SystemTray / TrayItem object. The main development is on Linux, and Mac support was added since version 0.4 (not so long ago) so please excuse the lack of integration, it should improve with future releases. Thanks for reviews!

It freezes on my G5 tower and my unibody MacBook. It has potential to be popular when it becomes friendly.

At only v.0.4, Hawkscope is early in it's development. Don't think I'll try it out 'till others go first and give it a clean bill of health....don't want to tke the risk of it screwing up my OS.
