Finder Size & Position Scripts is a script that allows you to set your Finder window size and position just as you like with the push of a button. Place it in your applications folder and then drag it to your toolbar to have a nice neat button.

Great work!
I have two questions according to later versions of your scripts:

Is it possible to keep and restore the folder's view mode (icons, rows columns...) and things like icon size etc.?

What about changing multiple folders at a time?

(Please excuse my bad english. I hope you understand what I like to say.)

This is a great little app. I went into the script to have it work with Path Finder. Now if I could only figure out how to get it into Safari. Nothing worse than some bone headed web designer thinking that a window resize on their site is a good idea.

Here my friend, you will like this application plugin if you hate window's resizing. Go to the developer of butler's site which is www.manytricks.com and you will see on the left side of the page a link for a SIMBL plugin named "Block Window Resizing." I guess you can figure out what the plugin does. Hope it helps, if not, let me know by responding to this and I will come back and give a few more ideas of how to stop pesky webmasters.

Better and better. My wish would be for it to open a window when one isn't already open. I would want an item sitting in the Dock. Say I'm in an app and I know next I want to go to Finder. Presently I click empty desktop space or Finder's Dock icon. As I normally keep Finder windows closed, being in an app and wanting to go to a new Finder window made just like I want it and doing so with but one click on the Dock icon would be pretty nifty.

This is a great script, but there is one little problem. It messes up the sidebar size when getting the size of the window so that when I use the script to set the window size, the sidebar shrinks to something smaller than I like.

Is there anyway for the developer to modify the script to handle getting the sidebar size as well?

The next release will not modify the sidebar.

You can easily modify the version 2 apps to display in list view. Just show package contents and find the main.scpt. It can be modified with script editor.

Unfortunately you cannot do this with version 3 as the script file is uneditable. Why I wonder?

Finder Size & Position Script 3.0 works as designed for me; sadly it resets Finder window view to Icon view. Bummer… as I have all of my Finder windows set to List view. Please consider modifying script to leave view alone. Thanks.

Also would like to see script(s) work when Finder Size folder is placed in Utilities folder.

Version 3 does not work for me. Get an error of window bounds.dat not found. Previous versions worked fine.

Does anyone know how to get in touch with Frank Brancato? I have some suggestions for him.

As the instructions say, you must first double-click the Set FinderSize icon to create the first .dat file.

Bug or possible fix?

Can't get window 1 of application Finder." - Error Thanks for all your hard work this farI love it. but one essential thing is missing from the scripts. They need to be able to open a finder window if there are no finder windows already being displayed. You get the error listed above.

It would be cool if it could launch a finder window if there is none open. Could get rid of the finder dock item all together!

I'm sorry for my tech naivete but the directions (I have never attempted any script manipulation, augmentation, etc.) are not supporting my understanding or application of the usage of this. Indeed I place the Findersize folder in my app folder: (do I then double click the FS folder while in the applications folder or not?) I size the finder window as I would like for my 24'' iMac screen. Then doubleclick GFS followed by SFS as directed. Then I copy the numbers on line 3 without the brackets as directed and then get lost? Paste these numbers without the brackets where? I feel like my confusion will confuse you but there does seem to be a step left out of the direction. Perhaps an intuition that is taken for granted when messing with scripts. I would like to standardize the finder window to always open to encompass the full size of the 24'' screen. Thanks. Dennis

As stated in the instructions, open (double-click) the FS folder once it is placed in the Applications folder and then adjust that folder (theone containing all of the FS docs) to your liking. You do not copy anything. Line 4. states: In the "Script Editor" window that opens titled "main", select the series of 4 numbers on line 3 (excluding the outer brackets) and then paste (⌘v) the contents of the clipboard. Meaning to (select) highlight and then paste over. The copy process is automated from the GFS script. You are simply pasting the results generated from the GFS script into the SFS script. I'm sorry, I know it might seem like a bit much to swallow, but with my limited knowledge of programming this is probably about as easy as I can get it. I am sure that once you slowly execute the process a time or two you will find it less intimidating. Hope that helps! :)

These scripts are great and easily modified to most anything you want. HOWEVER...how do you stop them to go back to the way Finder displays normally, before running these scripts?

These scripts don't lock you into anything. If you want to revert to the default Finder sizes you need to reveal Finder's hidden files and delete the ".DS_Store" file in any folder you wish to return to default size. There are many apps to do this. One of which is "Onyx", which will allow you to delete all of the ".DS_Store" files if you wish. Returning all of the Finder windows to their original state. I hope this relieves your "Trouble". :)
