Fontcase is a font management application that provides an elegant and powerful workflow to help you organise the fonts you have installed on your system. Designed to be an iPhoto for your fonts, Fontcase has a powerful tagging system, which is designed to let you control your fonts like you control your music.

Fontcase can preview every font for you, whether it is activated or not. There's no need to burden your system with thousands of fonts; you keep them all in Fontcase and activate them only when you need them. Other applications instantly recognise a new font without you

Just a heads up - the screenshot here on MacUpdate is of the older, far superior Fontcase 1.5.

As has already been pointed out, Foncase 2.0 is completely useless for font management, and should be avoided at all costs.

Beauty, simple user interface. Useless application.

Fontcase 1.0 was great. It was easy to use, had a clean, clear UI, was relative quick and stable. It wasn't perfect, but it was by far the best font app for Mac by a long shot.

Then 2.0 arrived. Stability and performance dropped. The UI, while pretty, is convoluted and actively gets in my way. It's unintuitive, it's slow, and it actually removed features. Removed! Who removes features?

Do not buy this. I can't tell you what to buy instead as it's been so long since I've used another app. What I can tell you is that instead of using Fontcase I've taken to manually adding and removing fonts as necessary.

Because it's easier. Maybe 3.0 will get this app back on the right track but it has fallen so far I'm not sure that's possible.

From my experiences I'd stay well away from Fontcase! It's slow, buggy and a very disappointing app. I'm part of a small design business and we purchased a 5 seat licence (v01). Unfortunately it drove everyone up the wall and we ended up changing to the more expensive, but excellent FontExplorer.

BeeFont is very good alternative to Fontcase. It's runs fast, and easy to compare font on Mac.

I'd used Fontcase for several years, and loved the iTunes-like interface for quickly managing fonts (dragging between collections, smart collections, tags, etc.). Simple, easy to use, and it worked well!

Unfortunately, the 2.0 update brings an all-new user interface that breaks all but the most simplistic of use cases. Even basic functions such as adding a font to a collection became horribly obtuse, requiring two to three times as many clicks, without any way to do it visually (drag-and-drop between sections now requires modifier keys while hovering over buttons in the top bar - you can't even see collections and tabs simultaneously). Deeply disappointed, but glad the developer provides a demo - I knew within minutes I could never upgrade.

Version 1.x is still usable, albeit with a few lingering bugs, but with the developer abandoning the user base (the 2.0 redesign focuses on font browsing, NOT management), I'm looking elsewhere for a good font app. I'd recommend you do the same.

Tragic, as Fontcase used to be a favourite.

I just downloaded the trial to see if I could use it to replace Linotype FontExplorer X.

Although there is a lot to like about the interface, the flaws are too serious for me to consider permanently installing this application.

The first thing I noticed is that there was no way for me to create my own groups (as I sometimes do for each project or client).

Then I found that deleting font families from the application moved the actual files to the trash. Who thought that this would be a good idea?

Finally, about 10 minutes into familiarizing myself with the application, it crashed. I had only installed Adobe fonts and wasn't running any other application.

Honestly, I'd love to buy and use this application as the interface has a lot going for it, but the number one priority for any font manager is that it must simply work.

I really liked the UI of Fontcase 1.5 - the app was a bit unstable, though. Bought 2.0 hoping that the final glitches would be fixed - to my annoyment though they had reworked the interface (the thing that really shined in 1.5) ... Now it's confusing to me, hard to browse, really bad. Very frustrating :(

This program looks nice and functions quite poorly. There isn't auto-activation for InDesign (I'm using CS 5.5) and when you attempt to activate from within the program you get prolonged spinning beachballs, (it manages to crash Safari at the same time too!) and you have to force quit the program.

I'm not happy I 'upgraded' from Version 1.5. What did I pay extra money for? All I got was terrible performance and new non-descript new features. I really want to like this program but I've got no more time to waste. FontExplorerX here I come.

Same issue.. too bad because the interface is pleasing, the viewing capabilites too.. this software could be great.. but at this point isn't yet.. I got the spinning beachball as well, crashes and son on. Sio I'll keep on using my FontAgent Pro.. even though I find it clunky in certain aspects as well.. but at least it works.. activates my fonts, shows font types (OTF, TT etc).

This new version 2 is excellent activating fonts in place at last, no more copying fonts to used font folder hidden main window when not needed and fast picks up all the fonts I need in any program iMac i5 quad 27 in OSX 10.6.7 Works with Photoshop CS5 instant pickup in photoshop if I turn a font on all other app pick up all the font requests I could throw at it. The font sensing is better than Suitcase 3 and FontExplorerX pro. My Font library is around 5000 fonts.

not thrilled with the "upgrade" pricing for 2.0, especially since a) I feel like a beta tester with v1.5's bugs b)there's not much new here to warrant a full price to upgrade.

Have to agree here. The previous versions were buggy. And after my hope that version 2 would be worth an upgrade i am again seeing crashes and fonts not being visible after importing.

i like their interfaces and interaction approach, but all there software keeps crashing or being faulty :-(
