DropBox gives you 2GB for free, and up to 8GB free if you refer enough friends. 50GB on DropBox costs $10.00 / month.

TwirlBox gives you 3GB for free, and 55GB for $8.00 / month.

Looks like iBackup in not competitive on price.

You can use a free online backup like Cloud/Box.net/Dropbox for up to 5GB. No monthly charge unless you want more space

(I use iDrive not iBackup, but this comment applies to them both equally, and in fact to any other similar off-site backup scheme). This works exactly as advertised, I've used it for maybe 6 months, entirely hassle-free. But be warned: if you are going to back up many gb. of data, it's going to take a long time, maybe up to a week, and your broadband connection is going to take a serious hit (sure, you can apply the throttle control to cut back on its bandwidth use, but this means your upload takes even longer). Personally, if I were going to start all over with one of these services, I'd put it off until the next time I was about to take a long vacation.

Let me also add that I chose iDrive primarily because I had checked out several such services, and downloaded the software of each one for evaluation. By comparison, the software offered by some competitors was very crude and un-Mac-like, but iDrive's is polished and has a sophisticated yet easily comprehensible interface.

What is the difference between iDrive and iBackup? These two seem to have identical software except for the logo. iDrive is significantly less expensive and offers more space, and seems to be actively updated. The iDrive website says both companies are owned by Pro Softnet Corporation. Does iBackup just continue to exist as a first marketing attempt?

that's what I'd like to know. Where's the difference between idrive and (this) ibackup?
identical looking client, even the company seems to be the same (Pro Soft).
only differentce I see is the price tag (this, not the original) ibackup is 5 time the price of idrive's.
hmm? confusing if not alerting as I do use idrive...

Yes, MIBRILANE, there is already a nice, free backup utility called iBackup that's been around since at least May 26, 2004 (when they first posted on VersionTracker.com). It was just updated March 30 to v. 6.6.2, so I doubt they just recently sold the rights to their name to these new guys

I don't know how these new guys got access to the name. Maybe they just appropriated it without asking, figuring the freeware dudes won't have deep enough pockets to fight the theft of their app's name. Maybe we should all complain to MacUpdate's admin?

I have been using this product for a while and Im pretty impressed with the value. They have the best prices per GB I have seen and I have signed up a bunch of my customers. The software they provide has some powerful features that rival Backup Exec.

If you sign up using this referral link I'll make a referral commission. Thanks.
