Dropbox Cache Cleaner is a great way to share items between team or project members and can also help you keep your data synchronized across multiple systems (and web-accessible). It is very fast, especially if files are deleted inadvertently and restored due the use of a cache.

Hidden in your home directory (/Users/username/) is a directory named .dropbox where the application keeps a database of your account configuration (encrypted) and what should be synchronized to your local Dropbox folder. Ok, I was down to 99M on my macbook pro. I'd tried everything including disk recovery, installing/uninstalling dropbox, deleting all the dropbox files...

Nothing worked. I was going crazy.

Finally, a google search turned up this little gem. It turns out that I had about 65G of space "saved" for the dropbox cache. This computer only had about 75G free on a good day.

One click, a couple minutes of waiting, and Presto! my disk was back again.

Bless YOU! You are my friend forever.

Worked great for version 6.402 of dropbox (the latest stable build). Recaptured 538MB of disk space. Thanks!

The latest "experimental" builds of Dropbox (which is currently at ver 0.6.434) have apparently included a feature which automatically purges all but the last three days worth of files from the cache, so this app may no longer be needed.

It works, though I didn't know the DB cache was an issue.

There is also a ~/.dropbox/cache directory which can get huge. Since Dropbox has yet to add cache management to the agent application, you will need to manually clear this out if you want to free up space on your hard drive.

Enter Dropbox Cache Cleaner. This simple Dashboard Widget lets you see how big your Dropbox cache is and then gives you the option to clear it all away.
