Apple doesn't say, but I think this is only for the most recent MacBook Pros.

It's not supported (not for) my mid-2010 17".

It just showed up in Software Update on my early 2011 MacBook Pro 17" 2.2Ghz Core i7.

Is it just my MBP or do the new AMD Radeon HD 6750M video cards create a LOT more fan noise than the video cards in my two previous non-unibody Core Duo and Core 2 Duo MBP 17"s?

Almost every time a Flash video is played the fan kicks on making a LOT of noise... VERY annoying especially since this MBP is otherwise almost completely silent since it has an OWC 240GB SandForce SSD

The 1.3 SMC update has an unclear effect on temperatures. (It brings me up to version 1.27f2 - go figure.) I was running up to 83C or slightly higher according to iStat, under moderate to heavy load. (The load was an external monitor streaming Netflix, Wi-Fi running at 150 KBps, and several applications. This does not seem like a heavy load to me, but I guess decoding a movie takes work.)

Tonight, I went up to 83 without even any streaming (but with an external monitor). But after a few minutes it has settled down to between 72 and 76.

Here's my complete temperature list for comparison. First number is first reading; second is 10 minutes after startup.
CPU A 82 / 71
Airport Card 51 /52
Battery 30 / 30
Enclosure Bottom 33 / 34
GPU Diode 82 / 79
GPU Heatsink 68 / 65
Heatsink A 62 /61
Heatsink B 46 /45
Memory Controller 52 /51
Hitachi Drive 21 /21

To reiterate, not for unibody MBPs.

Not for late 2006 MBP's either.

Is this meant only for the unibody models?

Actually for my unibody, it doesn't work. It doesn't show up in Software Update. If I run the downloaded installer, it says it's not needed for my model.

So this must be meant for older MacBook Pros, like the previous reply stated.

I also have the Unibody MacBook Pro, April 2009 and this firmware update doesn't appear in my Software Update. I'm running 10.5.7.
