Perfect if you do not have the wallet to support WriteRoom's cost. This is a text editor with a beautifully done old-school interface. Funny how these old methods still work so well. You can change every single function in this application without once reaching for the mouse.
I wish it jumped straight back into full screen when you Cmd-Tab back to it, that is the only major issue I had with it. I love fixed width fonts so that aspect is no problem for me.
This is a surprisingly effective alternative to Writeroom which has grown to have too many bells and whistles for a "simple" word processor. Yeah, it's old-skool, but it works. Wish it had other than monospaced fonts, though.
The old version of WriteRoom is still up for free on the developer's site. This might be worth my while if it had various settings that made it useful for everyone (such as say, vim, nano, and emacs modes that let users familiar with those programs get around with keyboard shortcuts). I find that running vim fullscreen will solve the problem nicely for me– if you can learn vim (I was able to learn a good deal of vim in 30 minutes), it'll help you for more than just coding. You can write faster and make lists with ease.
