Just like sjk I got the "there are no drivers available for your model" This was after downloading the printer drivers first! I ended up having to clear my browser history and reload the page and on the 3rd reload it "magically" found them again.

That said, I also have had problems getting the MF4350d to work wirelessly. I finally got a long USB cable and shared the printer on one of my desktops so the rest of the rooms have access.

I updated this thru Software Update this morning... did Disc Utility - Repair Permissions and all. Then 6 hours later I get a pop-up thru Software Update to update again. Was a newer version released this afternoon?

Using the full download usually does a better job of updating drivers, the latest being 10.51.2.0 (Preferences> Print & Scan> Options & Supplies button...) If yours isn't this number after updating using Apple's Software Update you might want to download the whole thing.

Long story short; last time I used Software Update my drivers weren't updated.

Hi. I'm 2.8 Quad-Core Intel Xeon / 10.6.8. I assume you mean "System Preferences(?) > Print & Fax > Options & Supplies.

Mine says Driver Version Gutenprint v5.2.3. Where do you find the number you found?

After installing the new drivers via Software Update, I get an error message when trying to scan using my MP145.

After installing the latest driver I cannot print B&W only anymore. Software is forcing me to replace the color ink cartridge first before I can do anything. VERY CLEVER IDEA TO MAKE MORE $$$, BUT CONSEQUENTLY MY NEXT PRINTER IS NOT GOING TO BE CANON ANYMORE. BEWARE!

RandomTox- Get the software from Canon's website to restore functions and avoid the ink level issues. These drivers are made by Apple, not by Canon. I'm sure Apple isn't trying to force you to spend more money on ink, and Canon had nothing to do with it.

More likely they're written by Canon and distributed by Apple.

That's possible, sjk, but then why wouldn't Canon include drivers for all their current products, such as the MF4350d?

The MF4350D isn't current, at least not in the US. For whatever reason, the Canon printer drivers downloaded from Apple don't support *any* MF imageCLASS series printers, while my older iP5000 still is. For the MF4350D, Canon's US site currently says:

"Drivers & Software are not available for this model."

And it's only showing an older iP5000 driver.

Models that Apple-distributed drivers support are listed in this KB article (updated yesterday):

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#canon

I don't know Apple's intentions for acquiring CUPS, which is still GPL/LGPL licensed (hmm):

http://www.cups.org/documentation.php/license.html

Surely there are more MF4350D's in service than a high percentage of legacy printers still supported with CUPS drivers. Ugh.

Canon is actively updating the software/drivers for the Mac for the MF4350d. Look here:
http://consumer.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/imageclass_series/imageclass_mf4350d#DriversAndSoftware

I think the rest supports the idea that the drivers in Apple's supplied update are created, or at least maintained, by Apple rather than Canon. There's just no logic to the included and excluded list from Canon's perspective; but it makes sense if those are the ones Apple holds license to.

Here, I only see the aforementioned "Drivers & Software are not available for this model." message on that imageclass_mf4350d#DriversAndSoftware page, not any software to download.

Select Drivers and Software, then choose your OS (10.7 Lion, for instance), then choose Drivers. The fax and scan software was just updated last week, on October 20th. The printer software was last updated in August; Canon has said a printer software update is planned for late this month or some time in November.

I'm not sure if you really couldn't find that or you're just being perversely obtuse for some reason...

Before downloading this gigantic file (which contains drivers for ALL Canon printers), run Software Update first. Usually, you'll find a much smaller download that contains only the driver(s) that you need.

For example, I have a Canon MP610 on one of my Macs. The download via Software Update was a measly 7.4 MB!

This SOUNDS sane but I found out that this approach does NOT update printer Drivers. WHY this approach doesn't update the printer drivers (shown via Preferences>Print & Fax>Options & Supplies...) is beyond me but I found out the hard way that only downloading and installing the monstrous file was the only way to update the driver.

Perhaps someone (from Canon?) could clarify whether the whole download is necessary?

Well, this method is still working fine for me. Software Update notified me of new Canon and Brother drivers today. Both downloaded and installed with no issues. The new drivers are much smaller (33 and 21 MB, respectively) than the full packages listed on MacUpdate.

Also, both new drivers are listed in Print & Fax. One of them fixed an issue that was present in the old driver, which seems to indicate that the drivers were updated properly. Not sure why you're having trouble with it, Umaromc.

My IP3000 now prints to cd/dvd media again. Well done Canon. If you don't want to clutter your printers folder with the printers that you'll never use, just delete them.

I would HIGHLY suggest going to the company's website and searching for the drivers for your printer- you're going to save a LOT of time (well I did)... and the downloads did not sum up to nearly what this behemoth does.

These drivers are for SL, please note the current drives on the Canon site are for 10.5.

The OEM 10.5 files are smaller because they are for specific printers and not the entire product line.

Canon has very recently updated certain specific drivers for 10.6, e.g. PIXMA MP620 (sold in Apple stores).

The Apple 10.6 driver D/L is for a broad range of drivers (the list is here) http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#canon

Just to be clear.

I downloaded this update in the interests of keeping up to date with the Canon Printer drivers. However, the download overwrote my existing Canon Printer driver (MP520) which I then had to re-install this morning. Good job I have the original disc.

Mistake? Probably not. This driver download is not being provided by Canon, it is being provided by Apple, presumably with some technical assistance from Canon. It supercedes any drivers available for these two printers that you might find at the Canon site.

Yeah, I downloaded and indeed it's 267 MB! Well, apparently they've cooked something mighty big in there. I looked inside package file and there are lots of color profiles, kernel extensions, etc. Probably über-control over printouts. OK, good for Pixma Pro 9000/9500 owners!
