The InstallESD.dmg file has a background image in it. But as supplied by Apple, it doesn't seem to work. And I'd like to hide some folders and change the size of some icons--basically make it look like a Snow Leopard installer.
Is there an easy way to do this with DMG Canvas or similar too? I tried converting the InstallESD.dmg file to Read/Write, but didn't see any way to use DMG Canvas to change an existing dmg. (Did I miss something.) I tried making a new DMG, using the files in InstallESD.dmg as the source. That looked real nice, but wouldn't install.

So did some searching for a alternative and found it with DMG Canvas.
It works fine with Lion, payed for it and happy using it now.

We create many DMG's for distribution to our cleints. Custom background, custom window size/position, custom text, etc., etc., etc.
Where DMG Canvas shines is in its unusually great usability. It's simple and reliable. The only issue I found was resolved by my RTFM. :)
Five starts for an excellent tool.

The disadvantage is you cannot create DMG files in one time

This is the best tool I've seen for creating disk images. Very robust, and I'm glad to see that the latest version can create good Leopard compatible disk images on Snow Leopard.
It makes creating fancy disk images a synch (not something that's easy to do manually).

I had been using the program for a while and got the new version WHICH WAS STILL LISTED AS FREE, and it wasn't. I wanted people to know. I didn't insult or demean this program at all!
Know what? from now on, I just won't care about telling people that a version has switched from $0 to $20. Figure it out yourselves you ungrateful users.

If snapping and precise placement controls can be implemented (nudging with the arrow keys would be ideal too), this will probably be the easiest and nicest solution available.
