iTubeX allows you to download videos (Flash, HTML5 and others), .mp3 and .swf files from almost every website as easily as possible. You can also choose to save only the audio of a video as a .mp3 file and save complete webpages as .jpg, .png, .tiff, .pdf (with or without links) or .eps files. iTubeX also has a feature to convert files into a lot of other filetypes, for the iPhone, iPod Touch, other mobile phones and even more filetypes. iTubeX is available in English and Dutch and requires an Intel Mac with Mac OS X 10.5 or later.
What's New
Version 9.0:
  • Changed license usage policy; you may use a single license to activate iTubeX on up to two physical computers.
  • A completely free upgrade for registered users (you may need to activate iTubeX again though)!
  • Completely rewritten from scratch (all code has been fully rewritten and optimized).
  • Now fully based on the Cocoa framework instead of the Carbon framework.
  • 100% compatible with Mac OS X 10.7.
  • Now includes Mac OS X 10.7-specific features (like full screen support).
  • Completely new interface to look more Mac OS X 10.7-like.
  • Now allows you to manually choose which resolution / format of a YouTube video you want to download.
  • Completely new activation system (now requires internet access).
  • Now allows you to extract the audio of files you had already downloaded.
  • Includes a new feature called 'Quick Launch', allowing you to quickly launch a single application or a group of applications right from iTubeX.
  • Now requires an Intel Mac with Mac OS X 10.5 or later.
  • Fixed all problems with downloading YouTube videos (including the 'undefined' message).
  • A lot of other improvements, just too much to list here.

An excellent app, the developer Joris was really helpful when I had a problem and responded immediately. I would recommend this over all similar apps due to the ease of use and the way it integrates seemlessly with iOS.

Very nice app - I've tried a number of YouTube downloading apps (SeaTubes, VideoBox) and while they all work well, this one is by far the most user-friendly...slot in a YouTube URL start the download and you are sorted. I was also highly impressed with the fast and helpful feedback from the developer, qualities that are increasingly rare nowadays. Kudos to JV and I will definitely be upgrading to ITX9 once I upgrade my machine :-)

Version 9 is great, a huge improvement over version 8 (especially for Lion users; version 8 has some bugs under 10.7). I like the new option of selecting quality when you click the download button, and the overall experience is very polished.

The only thing I would like to see is the Downloads progress bar integrated into the main window so it's basically a single window app (similar to how Safari 5.1 handles downloads, or a download manager could be contained in the bottom of the window).

It's easy to use and downloading a bunch movies at the same time is cool.

Will register for sure.

BTW will this be available at Appstore any time soon?

But lately your going the wrong lanes. I mean, iTubeX is a very good app and support is great. Why dissing on the app and his users?
I think you have to step down and let your high self-esteem go for one minute.

What a pile of crap. Tested the demo version and it didn't download a thing.
Installed the Safari Extension. Quit and restarted Safari. Navigated to Google Video and played a video.... used the Safari extension to open the video URL in iTubeX and it plays in the window. When trying to download it it says "Please make sure you're on a page with a playing video or audio clip". This has happened for all sites I've tried on the crappy 4 video limit the trial offers.

Waste of time. Don't bother downloading. Deleting it from my system now!

You mentioned that you had trouble downloading Google Videos with iTubeX 9.0. It is a fact that many of the videos on that site are embedded which means that as a workaround the user can click the label "youtube" or "dailymotion" next to the viewer window and the user will be taken to the actual "youtube" or "dailymotion" site where iTubeX 9.0 works perfectly to download those videos. How do I know this? I did what Akrobat should have done...I emailed Joris and received his reply in a half an hour. Joris duplicated the problem and told me that direct downloading on the Google Video site will be accomplish in the very next iTubeX 9.1. Now, that is customer/developer service!!

you may also try looking in your hard disk: the registration information is a file with ".license" extension, you may easily find it out with a Finder search. if you manage in finding it, all you have to do is drop that file in the Activation dialog.

First of all, do you really think that is necessary to post all these comments here?

Secondly, actually before you posted this comment, I did answer it. Here's a summary of my answer:

- Don't forget to mention that a license for iTubeX includes free updates for an unlimited time; you will never have to buy a new license like you have to with Adobe CS.

- Apple allows you to use a single iTunes account on a maximum of five computers, not six...

- One of the reasons why I had to set a limit for the amount of computers is because serial numbers would often be distributed over the internet which of course is something I don't want to happen.

- Most Apple-users (including myself) I know are using just one or a maximum of two computers. That's why I decided to set the bar at two.

Joris Vervuurt (developer) replied on 28 Aug 2011
I have actually been thinking about upgrading the maximum of 2 computers to 4 or 6. If I decide to upgrade the amount, that would be when iTubeX 9.1 is released.

I have no problem discussing this subject with you via email (though I would appreciate it if you would be less 'aggressive'), but please stop posting all these comments here.

First coincidence: one point that almost all users recognize to this young developer is it's promptiness in helping and answering users. And, what a chance!, you who are one of the most criticizing, you are also the one who was not answered at all.
Curios.

Second coincidence: the developer, IN HIS FULL RIGHT, decided to change the licensing policy considering it was enough for his users. He may have made a mistake, but actually 2 computers per user may sound reasonable. And, ho, this is disturbing you a lot so to raise a lot of noise here.
Curioser.

Third coincidence: you are using strong words, as like this young, smart and clever guy destroyed all your activities or computers.
Trying to put him in the bad light. The only one. And accuse who's criticizing this tones as being kind of "interested" or "associated" to this developer, whom by the way is known to work fully on his own.
Curioser and curioser.

Three coincidences are an evidence, they say.
Attempt to shame a good app that for some reason is disturbing you or someone close to you with its success?

First of all, I love this program - best You Tube downloader I've used. But recently I have run into a big problem that I can't seem to fix. The mp3 files will only open in Quicktime and not in iTunes. One fix I read on the net was to repair files in mp3 scan & repair. When I drag the file it says its an unknown file type. When I get info on the file and compare it to another file I have downloaded successfully using iTubeX, all the info is the same. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling, rebooting, verifying/repairing permissions, and even repurchasing a new license. I'm at my wits end! I have spent hours trying to fix the issue and nothing has worked. Don't get how one day it worked fine and now it doesn't. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

I am aware of this problem (which seems to occur after updating to Mac OS X 10.6.8) and it should be fixed in the next release of iTubeX (9.0), which will probably be available a few weeks after Mac OS X Lion is released.

Note that there is a temporary solution that should make it work again: simply enter 'test.mp3' as the filename and after the download and converting is completed, rename it to whatever you want in the Finder.

By the way, for development news you can follow me at Twitter if you want to:

Until I discovered Tooble today! (thanks to ROBERTCOOGAN2 who mentionned it, see iTubeGrabber's reviews)
It's not a viewer and its interface is not very stylish, but at least it wooooorks! (and nevertheless, it's free!)

Ok... I have to answer myself: MacTubes can also download movies, but you have to dig a little to find the function and then to try which codec it can download.
As for a browser only app, Minitube is very efficient and simple.
Youview is not bad but to have the download working you have to pay! (Waow, what a freeware! ;-)

Ok, after trying all that I could find around, here's my verdict:
Minitube is the best for browsing but doesn't download.
Tooble is nice but lately there's always this "Pro" ad at start...
So I came back to MacTubes, which is probably the best compromise and FREE.
It's absolutely insane that paying apps don't work while free ones do!!!

As far as iTubeX Ultimate in general, the program is SUPERB. The developer is responsive and polite. I feel like this is an excellent value for the small amount you spend to license it.

I am having problems getting the download now link to work on the latest update. It simply cycles me back to this same page over and over again. I've tried two separate browsers (Safari and iCab), both with the same result.

Any ideas?

Hello Gary,

Please send feature requests and question to jorisvervuurt@planet.nl so I can take a look at them.

Regarding the zero-size file problem: today it happened once to me too.
It appears to be a problem at YouTube's end: drag the zero-size file onto TextEdit and you will see:

Http/1.1 Service Unavailable

Reloading the page and clicking the Download button again should make it work again.
Also I am now working on a new preference option called "If available, download YouTube videos at highest quality (.mp4 file)". It will download the video at a much higher quality than you get now when clicking the Download button. Also, 1080p YouTube HD videos can be downloaded immediately as .mp4 files and the zero-size file problem should no longer occur.

Correction to my reply below: the about window can indeed be closed with CMD+W but all other windows still doesnt.

Some strange issues:

- Why does the main window refreshes when you close the preference window?
- Why does the main window refreshes twice when I press the refresh button?
- Why does iTubeX quits downloading at a random rate? This behavior wasn't there with previous version. Happens 2 out of 10 tries. When it happens I get a 0 size file.
