This doesn't work as advertised. v.2.0 instead downloads a program called "Free File Downloader". The only capability of this seems to be pasting in a web link and downloading whatever that link points to -- very pointless when you could do exactly the same thing easier with a browser.

I navigated in Sourceforge to find v.1.9, that was actually called "YouTube Downloader". I opened it and gave it a YouTube link, but it didn't download anything. It just placed an HTML format "report" in the download directory that said the download was "cancelled".

I don't give many one star reviews, but I generally want my software to do something.

I found this app to work exactly as advertised. I got no alternate download called "Free File Downloader". I launched the program, a window opened that says, "Drag And Drop YouTube URL here," I did, and the video downloaded without a prob. Admittedly, the excellent iTubex has a more whistles and bells, but for a fast, simple, free YouTube DL, this works fine.

Dgerzeeboy: Really? I find that hard to believe, as I just tried it again by hitting "Download Now" up above and I again got Free File Downloader -- several months later and with a different browser than I used before.

I don't want any YouTube downloader app to auto-convert the videos I download and auto-import them into iTunes. Annoying!

This is why I really like YouTube Downloader - it's super-simple to use and lets me pick the destination folder for the videos.

One small problem has appeared under Snow Leopard however, my cursor will dissapear and I have to shake the mouse around in order to get it to reappear, or command+tab to switch to another app to get it to reappear. Hopefully the dev will issue an update that will get rid of this one small bug.

Tryed this software a half year ago - didn't converted downloads. As I wasn't able to view flv files - useless for me

Open the flv files with QuickTime Player in SL and resave as a .mov

Does the job nicely. It's a Java applet, which shouldn't put anyone off - it's cleanly designed and very straightforward. Just double-click the .jar file and feed it the URLs of the YouTube videos you want to save, and off it goes.

One very nice feature is that it will extract the name of the video from YouTube, so you won't be left with a directory full of "download 1.flv" files wondering which was which.

However, it doesn't do any automatic conversion, so if that's important to you look at another app.
