Interarchy overview

Interarchy is an advanced file transfer app that supports FTP, SFTP, Webdav, S3 and the new, very fast iFTP. It also supports plug-in architecture for compressing files, running scripts and restarting servers

It ties in well with both Amazon and Rackspace's cloud file hosting services, allowing you to transfer and manage data in the cloud. It also boasts as being the fastest file transfer client on the Mac, transferring over 80MB/sec on a gigabit network

The Net Disks feature allows you to mount remote servers on your Mac's Desktop as if it were a local disk. This makes it easy to interact and work with remote files as if they were local

Got an email from the developer, since Interarchy changed to Nolobe some years ago, Interarchy is dead. In this email he now tries to sell T-shirts ..
Some 10 years ago Interarchy was great, time to move on ..

Hi, Maybe I am not the customer targeted by this app. But I must really say that I do not understand it's purpose. It can be used as a FTP client and it claims to be fast. Well, that may be, but really : with no dual-pane presentation, it makes it difficult to transfer files. But why not if it is fast as advertised... But even that it is not. FTP transfer from my computer to the remote server are just the slowest I have compared to EVERY other FTP client I use... but of course maybe that's not the real purpose of Anarchy ? And there's one nice feature that allows you to transfer files from a remote server to another remote server. But what you ought to know is that this will first transfer the files to your hard drive (what happens if there not enough disk space ?)... and yes, that IS fast. But then it uploads form the hard drive to the remote server. And there we go again : slowest I tried. So, not for me...

Honestly, I find it quite an insult to owners of this software that Nolobe chose to release this, and to also do so with no explanation or release notes. From what I can see so far, it appears to be the very same app posted 2 years ago, except that it has a 'retina aware' setting enabled in its plist and is signed with a Developer ID. It's not good enough, Nolobe. This release deserves no more than 0.5 stars, sorry.

The app is quite good, but it is no longer supported or developed. So if you pay for this you get last years products for this years price. Find a FTP-client that is actively maintained.

If you want speed, this is the FTP client for you. In my admittedly unscientific tests. Interarchy downloaded a 1.2 GB file in twenty minutes; Transmit took 1 h 24 m to download the same file. Later it did a 1.9 GB file in 31 minutes, Transmit is still working on it.

Used Transmit for a few months, which is a fine ftp client. Went back to Interarchy recently because it's quicker & more efficient for mirroring tasks. There's a script that can be installed as part of Services that will tell Interarchy to ignore or not ignore files/folders during mirroring operations. I modified the script so that the file/folder color is change to visually let me know what's being ignored. Brilliant.

I originally got in on the deal to purchase Interarchy for $14.95. My decision to purchase, despite reading all the comments here, boiled down to two things, Interarchy's ability to connect to Rackspace and to try iFTP. While iFTP IS extremely fast (for servers that support it), I am unable to connect to Rackspace at all. I emailed support support (Matthew) on January 19th and I got a response back that same day asking for a log of the connection. I sent the log on January 20th and haven't heard back from them...AT ALL. I've emailed twice, once on 2/1 and again on 2/19 simply asking for a status update. No...response...at...all. While some functionality of Interarchy does work, I'm ratiing it what I am based on the OVERALL use, which sadly includes my customer "support" experience.

no quicklook when I bought it, unfriendly support saying "This is a known bug. It should be addressed by the 10.0.3 release which is scheduled for January 6th." That did not happened (I switched back to Cyberduck in january)...

Just another FTP? Yeah, maybe... but interarchy is a sure thing. I would never have the idea to buy it for my very basic FTP needs... But I got it in a bundle (best invention since the wheel and the Mac). The software is very rich. There are many features I don't (and won't) need. However, the small percentage I use is absolutely flawless. FTP is easy to use, user friendly and efficient. I used CyberDuck and sometimes, I couldn't upload my website (couldn't know why, but no issue with Interarchy). Access to webdisks is a gem (maybe it's a basic feature but I couldn't find it in CyberDuck). Even with basic needs, you can really "feel" that Interarchy has much potential under the hood... so if you've got specific file transfer needs, maybe you should give it a try.

Emailed Support regarding application crashes and no response. The application is completely unstable in 10.6.6 as well as 10.7 Dev beta. Their last blog entry is from Wednesday, 18th August 2010 http://nolobe.com/blog/ If they are not going to even respond to support requests to paying customers this app deserves a dump rating. They got what they deserved....

Early in February I asked Matthew Drayton, the developer of Interarchy, what his timetable was for fixing the bugs which remained in the application. I then had the opportunity to give him what I believed to be a complete list of those that I found, which include several more than I noted in my review on MacUpdate.com on November 20, 2010; I give you those here: I consider an bug to be serious if it affects my use of an application; however, here are some bugs that cause crashes: - Cover Flow crashes, every time. (1) - Copy Public URL crashes, every time. (2) Bugs that require I change how I use Interarchy: - Double-clicking a folder attempts to download the folder, instead of opening it. (1) - File/folder creation occurs in unexpected directories. (4) - Copying a file by dragging from the window to a background tab copies the file to the wrong directory. (4) - Right-clicking on a selection of multiple files/folders deselects all but one. (4) - Cannot rename in place in column view. Bugs or behaviors that slow down my use of Interarchy: - Duplicating a file leaves the original selected, rather than the copy. (3) - Using HITextField for the address control causes text to shift when moused into. - Renaming a file selects the whole name, including the extension. (3) - Double-clicking a file to rename doesn't do an appropriate word-select. (3) - Quick Look (and preview) doesn't work on remote servers. (1) - In column view, selecting a directory followed by "Select All" results in all items in that directory's column to be selected. This is different than the Finder's behavior, where all items *in* the selected directory would become selected. (3) Bugs that otherwise affect my use of Interarchy: - Save/Save As don't do what (this) user expects. - Preferences for selecting columns to view is missing. (1) - State not saved periodically. (1) Although Matthew's first comment was "I don't comment on future releases," he did indicate that these would be fixed in the next release. (2) This has been fixed, probably by a reinstall of the operating system. (3) It's particularly frustrating to me that Matthew insists that these behaviors reflect the Finder's behavior, when that is clearly not the case. (4) Also different than the Finder, although Matthew hasn't commented. I sent Matthew a screencast (at his request) to demonstrate the issues marked above by (3); however, he has not responded to me in nearly a month -- even when I sent two additional messages. Playing the Devil's advocate, I understand some of the delay is due to the Mac App Store. Matthew, after hearing in November (?) about the MAS, chose to delay the release of any update so that it could be released simultaneously in the MAS and on his website. The MAS approval process has increased that delay. Very frustrating for him, I'm sure. But (and switching back to the other side), it's even more frustrating for his customers who have paid for a working product -- or, at least, a certain level of usability -- and have not been communicated with. I stand by my earlier review. There are too many bugs for me to recommend anyone buy this product, even at the tempting price of $20 (see my comments elsewhere on the price).

I'm currently in the midst of major revisions to the company website (168 files/folders in the remote directory, not counting subfolders/image files), and of the FTP clients I've accumulated over the years (Transmit, Forklift, Fetch, Yummy FTP, and Interarchy), Interarchy is the tool of choice for mirror operations. Why? While Transmit has great looks and features, it's *way* too slow in transfers/mirrors. Forklift is wicked fast, but the "Syclet" doesn't reliably pick up changes in local files as of the current version, v2.0.5. Mirrors are fast and reliable using Forklift itself, but I haven't found a way to get 1-click mirroring. Fetch is reliable, but does not offer a way to exclude files from mirror operations. Yummy FTP provides fast, accurate & flexible mirrors, but doesn't provide 1-click mirrors, although mirrors can be scheduled to execute automatically. I suppose if I wanted to mirror on a schedule, Yummy FTP would be just the ticket. The reason I use Interarchy is because I can start a mirror with 1 click in the menu bar and I'm done - no dialog boxes to click through. Interarchy never misses a revised/new file, so, for me, it's is the fastest, most reliable way I've found to mirror local and remote files. Gripes: 1. No help (kind of a biggie), 2. Crashes more than it should in Cover Flow view, 3. Mirrors no longer can be scheduled as in v.9, "trial run" mirrors are not available as in v9, and 5. Nolobe, the developer, has not been responsive to my feedback and questions (sure would like to hear from that guy one of these days). Bottom line: for web site maintenance these days, Interarchy's the best tool I have.

This is not a review but rather an observation. The help website server has not been functioning since I bought Interarchy. What gives? Can you PLEASE fix this issue? It makes your software look unprofessional and I would like to take advantage of the features of this software. So far this does not bode well. Please fix the server for the help manual ASAP. Thank you.

Where is the manual please? I can't figure out how to schedule a bookmark which is what I am most interested in. The old v8 documentation refers to a queue window, which I don't see here.... And I now have a file/bookmark icon in the sidebar under "Places" I dragged there, while testing, that cannot be deleted. Would love to get some actual help from the help menu.
