what?? THIS IS NOT AN UPDATE FOUND IN SOFTWARE UPDATE IN MAC MODE! you must boot into your bootcamp partition windows whatever,and run apple software update from there. works perfectly! i have lion and windows 7

The original Boot Camp that comes with Lion is version 4.

Bootcamp is an essential if you want to run PC games on the mac. For example, I play StarTrek Online, it is windows only,and it only runs fast on Bootcamp. Also, I have world of warcraft on both Mac and windows, but for some reason, the windows version is faster (something about OpenGL vs DirectX. Bootcamp does what I need it to do, it is transparently easy to use, it is FREE (with OSX), and I have not noticed any problems with it crashing. In other words it just works. My only comment is that I have problems keeping my Apple MagicPad to stay connected bluetooth wise at times. As such I am giving it a slight hit in stablity. (this could be something specific to my MacPro).

VirtualBox is much more flexible concerning the choice of the guest operating systems. I see no use for Bootcamp any more.

running windows via bootcamp is by far the BEST way to do it since it is running natively and not through some emulator that doesn't have full support. also you can only run games the way they are meant to be played with the best frames per second with bootcamp and not parallels,virtual box etc.

You can't run Half Life 2 Episode Two at 2560x1440 with all the bells and whistles turned on unless you use Boot Camp. For tiny little things, like when a government website requires IE for Windows, I'll use a virtual machine, but for serious work or play, Boot Camp is hundreds of times faster. Because it's a REAL PC running Windows. Not an app.

It works flawlessly, whoever gave it a review of 1 star must be mental or something. I am running Windows 7 Ult through bootcamp, but I only really play games cause thats all Windows is good for really.

If they could just add the hack to make Windows see the actual capability of Nvidia chipsets on Mac Minis... I mean AHCI.
It is being downloaded now, just hoping but I don't think so.
Thing is, it requires MBR modification, nobody has nvidia specs or dares to ship anything to public as if windows won't boot, there will be serious public problem.

Boot Camp is great. I use it to run Windows XP Home and surprisingly its faster then if i got a 400$ dell or toshiba. Great piece of software that i think people don't utilize enough.

I don't understand this. Mac's bootcamp assistant still says it is meant to only install XP or Vista. If this is for the driver updates then why didn't Apple update the assistant in the latest software update?

Mac's bootcamp (in Utilities) is another thing, it does very complex stuff to make MS dinosaur OS to "see" a PC which it can install to. For example, Windows doesn't like secondary partitions, "no BIOS", "no CMOS" (sadly, they still exist on PC land).

It just paves the way to Windows. It is rarely updated with OS X updates since it isn't really that complex.

Windows portion of software (the one installs over your OS DVD) is the one needing updates. So, this update kicks in. I would still maintain the updates to graphics/sound drivers if I run Windows for games though. It is impossible to keep them up to date with Apple updates. It doesn't really mean one should skip boot camp updates since there are several other stuff to update exclusive to Apple.

windows doesn't deserve the hassle and troubles coming with "cracking". If you really need Windows, buy some "basic" or "starter" edition. You also have OEM rights BTW, no need for box.

i have successfully used cracked versions of all windows systems flawlessly with my iMac running lion. even though the boot camp assistant says you can only use a windows 7 disc,that is not true,you can still install windows xp or vista even with lion. you must have a bad cracked version.

MacBook Pro 13" late model. Snow Leopard and Windows 7 32-bit Professional(with Bootcamp 3.0 installed). Works pretty well actually.

Just downloaded BootCamp 3.1 32-bit update. In reading through all of the material from the Apple site, should go pretty well. backed up the partition from the Mac side using Disk Utility with Compression checked (does it compress 65GB to 6GB? It is that good or does it have problems saving everything???).

Installed BootCamp 3.1 and after a few seconds I got the following message: Program Compatibility Assistant that "This program might not have installed correctly". Opions are to Reinstall using recommended settings, This program installed correctly, or Cancel. Oh man, I clicked Cancel button and in bringing up the Bootcamp button on the Windows Taskbar it still indicates version 3.0! Any ideas? If I select "This program installed correctly" will that work? I wouldn't think it would...

Any help/advice would be helpful.

On my MacBook Pro (Mid 2007), after I upgraded my Windows Vista 32-bit installation with Boot Camp 3.1, I got two error dialogs on every boot:

My system has nVidia 8600M GT graphics. I uninstalled the nVidia driver, downloaded a fresh copy from the nVidia web site and reinstalled, and that cleared up the problem.

Draechen had trouble on 20 Jan 2010

Downloaded and installed this as a standalone which I had no luck running this on Win 7 professional. The program quit each time I launched it and gave the standard "do you want to search the internet for an answer..."

I have bootcamp 3.0 installed so at first I thought it was because of this being installed so I went as far as to try and uninstall 3.0, then to install this, again without success. Additionally, the installer quit/gave the same response even when running from the Apple Software Update. The last attempt I made was running this in as "administrator" from the properties portion of the screen. For now I guess I have no choice but to stick with 3.0. Hopefully either Apple or someone comes up with a fix for this.

For what it is worth, this is on a MB Pro 17 Late 2008 with 4 gb of ram.

Much higher (too high) contrast now on Win7 and the update won't go away from the software-update application. Anyone else seeing this? Seems something got hosed with the color profiles.

Hi have this same problem. I tried to fix it in the Nvidia control panel as well as color calibration in the control panel, but the computer won't let me change anything. I can attempt to adjust gamma and color levels, and they last for a second, but then the system snaps them back. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Had seen that before, the digital vibrance was at 90%. i decreased that but it's still not like it was before 3.1
