MacBook Air EFI Firmware Update fixes several issues to improve the stability of MacBook Air (Mid 2011) computers and is recommended for all users.
This update improves the reliability of booting from the network, addresses an issue that can prevent HDCP authentication after a reboot, and resolves an issue with boot device selection when a USB storage device is hot-plugged.
Significantly increased speed of my MBA, especially start up and shut down. Update must have some sort of problem with PRAM. After installation had to reset PRAM to get start up tone. On subsequent start up tone is gone so have to reset PRAM again...(loop). Really like the speed increase!!!
Is this problem consistent or intermittent with your MBA? Mine usually sleeps normally while connected to external power but sometimes it'll still show up in Finder's sidebar on other systems after closing the cover.
If I put the MBA to sleep when it's unplugged, it immediately sleeps, it NEVER sleeps when plugged into the wall or when I close the lid. The only way I can get it to sleep is to sleep it on the battery, then when the power is connected, it will stay asleep. I have spoken with Apple, the said they were going to release a firmware update so am very disappointed that this update has not dealt with the problem.
Thanks for explaining how it's predictably reproducible on your MBA. Fortunately mine doesn't have that problem and the occasional mysteriously random lockups have stopped for a few months.
Even though it downloads with the wrong name (MacMiniEFI instead of MacBookAirEFI), it's the right version as EFI updates are not installed on equipment they were not designed to run.
