MacBook Air EFI Firmware Update is recommended for MacBook Air (Mid 2011) models. This update addresses an issue where systems may take longer to wake from sleep than expected and fixes a rare issue that may cause fans to run at full speed after waking from sleep.

The MacBook Air EFI Firmware Update will update the EFI firmware on your computer.

Your computer's power cord must be connected and plugged into a working power source. When your MacBook Air restarts, a gray screen will appear with a status bar to indicate the progress of the update. It will take several minutes for the update to complete. Do not more...

This update didn´t fix the hdmi issue at all. Still colors that are way of or downright missing. I really hope that Apple diggs into this and provides a REAL WORKING FIX!

Confirming NON-SOLUTION.

Applied the EFI update and no solution to garbage HDMI performance. Running MBA mid-2012 to BenQ GL2440 HDMI screen, OS X 10.8.2 with 8GB RAM, 128GB Flash. Six months and this is the first sign from Apple that the issue exists and their solution doesn't work!!!

needless to say, NOT impressed with NON-SOLUTION!!!

Significantly increased speed of my MBA, especially start up and shut down. Update must have some sort of problem with PRAM. After installation had to reset PRAM to get start up tone. On subsequent start up tone is gone so have to reset PRAM again...(loop). Really like the speed increase!!!

This update has not fixed the known problem of the MBA not sleeping when connected to to the charger, but it does sleep when on battery power.

Is this problem consistent or intermittent with your MBA? Mine usually sleeps normally while connected to external power but sometimes it'll still show up in Finder's sidebar on other systems after closing the cover.

If I put the MBA to sleep when it's unplugged, it immediately sleeps, it NEVER sleeps when plugged into the wall or when I close the lid. The only way I can get it to sleep is to sleep it on the battery, then when the power is connected, it will stay asleep. I have spoken with Apple, the said they were going to release a firmware update so am very disappointed that this update has not dealt with the problem.

Thanks for explaining how it's predictably reproducible on your MBA. Fortunately mine doesn't have that problem and the occasional mysteriously random lockups have stopped for a few months.

Even though it downloads with the wrong name (MacMiniEFI instead of MacBookAirEFI), it's the right version as EFI updates are not installed on equipment they were not designed to run.

Someone at Apple needs a cup of coffee!
