net4mac is a social network built exclusively for Mac users.
In order to become a part of the community and use all features, you need to download an application built for Mac OS X Leopard. The net4mac application allows you to:
Create an account and login to the service (internet connexion required).
Create your profile including your location, job, activities, skills and the type of Macs, iPhone, iPod, etc. that you own.
Add friends to your profile and manage them (remember, the service is only for Mac users).
I have to say i do agree a little with purple, this is a little bit of a shame to see it running in a dedicated app. It feels like MobileMe in Safari sometimes, so why isn't this entire thing running in Safari. But this is the only negetive thing, i love net4mac and it's a great oppertunity for all to join something good. Maybe it'll run in Safari with later updates? I dunno, i'm new to it but i do like it a lot :-)
Hoping it remains free for all forever!
One of the reasons why social networking is great, it's because you can access your pages from all over the world.
If I am in a internet point in Timbuktu I can still check my myspace and facebooks accounts.
What's really bad about net4mac is that you need to have an application installed on your Mac to access its features.
This means that you can't use your browser's favourite features and extensions, you can't open links in new tabs, and you are limited by the choices of the application's programmers.
Also, if I had to keep an application open for every service I use, soon it would be quite hard to work on my Mac. That's why I use Adium for all my instant messaging services, and not iChat, MSN, a Jabber client, ICQ at the same time.
So, I really can't understand and support the choice made by the net4mac guys: I actually find it's quite weird, expecially when you think that all the application does is showing web pages within its interface!
Net4mac is a promising service, but the way it is right now just doesn't work for me.

Contact members, send invitations to join the community, and manage your messages.
Create your own groups of interest and invite friends to join them. (people using the same application, in your same location, sharing the same passions, etc).
Browse and join groups you find interesting - share discussions, events and more!
Search members using different of criteria (for example, you can find people that use the same Mac or software)
Discover people around you (other Mac users in your neighborhood)
And many more functions!
There are many good reasons to use an application instead of a website:
Better integration between Mac OS X technologies and the features.
The community is easy to access from the Dock.
You can send invitations using your AddressBook
You can add/remove members with public profiles to/from your AddressBook.
You can add a picture to your profile or a group from your webcam!
You can see the number of messages in your dock (like Apple mail)
