Well worth the shareware price for me because it's just a simple to use mac app that you drag/drop the file on to a large icon of the application and then assign a password and there it's done. No reading a thousand page manual plus there was no system patching involved.

Can't truly rate the stability until i use it for at least a month. But apparently if i don't then this post will not go thru: so for now i will give it "3".

What does this do over and above TrueCrypt? TrueCrypt is free, and works brilliantly.

I like the fact that FileWard works on individual files rather than requiring an encrypted container. For me this makes storing encrypted files on remote storage services like iDisk or Dropbox easier and with quicker upload/download times than with a container. If you wanted you could have a different password for each file, giving even greater security against password crack attacks.

Sure it is free (as in beer), but is not free (as in speech); as was made clear here:

http://www.privacylover.com/encryption/analysis-is-there-a-backdoor-in-truecrypt-is-truecrypt-a-cia-honeypot/

That does not make it a bad thing. It just makes one wonder.

Regardless, this is a thread about FileWard, and for pretty casual and simple encryption is does a pretty damned good job.

FWIW, I'm more comfortable with GNU tools.
