I loved this app because everytime i want to open some flash memory and i delete a file it goes to a .Trashes file (which is hidden) but the deleted file stays there so i can't permanently delete it because of the 'hidden' issue only in a PC... which I hate (to depend on a PC) The problem in my case was that I could see the hidden file but i couldn't delete it, hope you can help me with this problem. Ty!! :))

you might want to change the name of this software. Houdini is a well known 3D program and it's at version 11 (sidefx.com). If this gets popular, you'll probably be getting a letter from some lawyers.

There are many Houdini’s around, of all sorts and kinds. The lawyers of each of them will have a serious job.

I was just looking for an app like this for my new MBP. I wanted to make an easy-to-find (yet hidden) file with my contact info in case the machine gets stolen and the thief takes it in for reformatting. Hardly foolproof and there are many other sophisticated methods but thieves are not always so bright. This app made it easy to create a hidden folder.

This app saved me time and a reboot. I kept getting a "A copy of Firefox is already open" messages after a hang and force quit, though the application didn't show up in the list of what was running. A Google search told me which hidden profile file was creating the problem, but I didn't really want to switch hidden file view on for the entire machine from the terminal. Houdini let me find and delete the file and get my browser back up and running without rebooting the machine. Thank you, thank you, thank you! (The machine is running Snow Leopard, and the download provided here worked just fine.)

Great app. My antivirus software found a virus in a hidden virtual memory directory and was unable to quarantine the file.

I was about to go into Terminal to find the culprit when I thought, there must be "an app for that" and I found this little jewel, and FREE at that.

Problem solved, and my antivirus software and system security is happy again. Thank you to the developer!

"Like any true Mac user, I had failed to back up my files" This is NOT like a true Mac user. I think anyone that isn't smart enough to back up their files isn't smart enough to write any program I want on my system. So anyone that thinks about it will give this program a wide berth.

Ausfahrt had trouble on 20 Jul 2010

On 10.6.4, iMac, Toggle File Visibility returns an error every time: AppleScript Error: The domain/default pair of (com.apple.Finder, AppleShowAllFiles) does not exist (1)
Also, when I try to reveal any folder, it says "An error occurred: The file you selected is already visible", when clearly from finder it is not. Tested on usr and iPod_Control.
Basically, I haven't seen anything that this program can do correctly. Am I doing something wrong? It wouldn't have five stars if it doesn't work at all.

I also have this error on my new Macbook pro but not on my iMac.
Really dissapointing, because I really needed it on the macbook.

I am getting an AppleScript error when trying to hide folders saying file wasn't found (-43).
I'm guessing Snow Leopard still isn't fully supported. Any idea when it will be coming?

Unfortunately Houdini will not open on my Mac running OS 10.4.11. Unzipping Houdini download produces a faded folder icon: trying to open it triggers a message that it is not supported on my system.

Can anyone explain what the problem might be, and how I might get round it? Thanks.

As of noon ET, I have successfully downloaded the image from MacUpdate and it mounted just fine. Sorry for the delay, in the future I will only upload updates from my house.

Odd. Again, I'll resubmit the image, but it mounts fine on this end and I checked it before uploading. However, I have the same idea about the uploading issues that I did last time - my internet here is patchy to say the least and bandwidth is a valuable commodity. Last time, when uploading from home, it worked. I hope the same is true this time as well.

Are you running the latest version? I see no problem in the app and no reason for there to be a problem in the code...and you're running Leopard, right?

Yea i am running the latest version 10.5.3. Leopard.

I really give up finding the hidden files..so please give me a solution. i did reinstall the software..and it wont go away.

No, the latest version of the application. That error message is exactly like the one from version 1.6, which we fixed. I'll check it out though.

OK, to do it manually, just type this into the terminal:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder

This will reveal all hidden files in your system, including the ones that were hidden and you can't recover. To re-hide the files, type this in:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
killall Finder

This application just does that automatically, plus adds handy things like the create, open, and delete features.

I downloaded version 1.7 last night and had the same error message popped-up. But when I tried again this morning with the version I downloaded last night, it looks like it works when a window shows up asking me what to do. Problem is I can have 3 options:

Files
Folders
Hide All Hidden Items

but I can't see the option to Show All Hidden Item? I'm desperately in need of finding the corrupted file ".superintelligence" :(

Are you already in Show All items mode on your computer? Houdini shows a different option based on the current state of the computer. So if it's working properly, that's supposed to mean your computer is already in Show All mode. Try using the Hide All option and then relaunching the program. I'll also have a look and see if I can find the problem.

Files did dissappear when dropped onto icon; now how do I get it back? Clicking on the Houdini icon generated the error message above.

Now that the compatibility issue has been fixed, you should just be able to run the app and either show all files and get them that way or use the file and folder options.
