Warp

Version 1.2.3

Use mouse to switch between Spaces in Leopard.

Warp overview

Warp is a preference pane that allows you to use the mouse to switch between Spaces rather than using the keyboard.

Warp offers the ability to display a live preview of a space when you move the mouse to the edge of the screen, allowing you to see what you have on another space before actually switching to it. Clicking the preview will then warp you to that space. (Enable this feature by checking the option "Click screen edge to Warp" in Warp's preference pane).

Warp is available free of charge, but donations are appreciated and assist in support and development.

Been getting so many false positives with Warp I have to often turn it off. I turn on the setting to "Click screen edge to Warp" but it's flakey and will move me over without clicking or if I’m clicking-n-holding onto a window or something. I set the activation delay to 2 seconds to help with the false positives, but the "Click screen edge to Warp" then takes 2 seconds before it will allow me to click. The click on the edge should be a signal to instantly go to the next space and circumvent the delay, but no love. I think the only solution to making Warp viable in a power user work environment, is if the dev makes a double-tap on edge option to stop false positives and allow for quick mouse action to get to another Space at the same time.

Version 1.2.2 has been turning itself off randomly by unchecking "Enable Warp". I got my old copy of 1.2.1 and it's working again, but then I have to manually turn it off again when I play the Angry Birds.

Once again, ugh... I love Warp, but I hate it too because you can't exclude other things that constantly trigger it. It would be solved by a double-touch on the sides option and/or being able to exclude other apps and their windows. Really hope the dev gets around to improving this otherwise great utility.

really, really wish you could exclude apps yourself instead of relying on the dev for everything. Lot's of other apps I use allow for this For example, would really like to exclude Angry Birds but I can't and it hinders gameplay. So I have to finagle Warp when I play. Which sucks when others play it on my computer, because I have to sit there and finagle Warp or show them how. I love this app otherwise, but really wish this feature was added. Also it would be great if when you go to the edge to switch to a space if there was an option for a double-tap of the edge to trigger it instead of an activation delay.

It's a handy little app and it's free , it makes using spaces even more natural One big downside is the WarpDaemon uses almost 200MB ( with only 4 spaces ). RAM is cheap nowadays but that's really too much for a tiny background add-on . I'll keep an eye on future versions , hopefully they'll reduce drastically the memory usage

The floating pager HUD makes Spaces worth using again. It's a small visual overview of all the spaces, I keep it in a corner of my screen so I know where everything is. Click on one of the boxes takes you to that space. A brilliant idea! A few minor visual bugs to be squashed but still very usable. Thank you.

I agree! This struck me at first as kind of useless...adding a unwanted feature. But it has really gotten me hooked. I definitely recommend it.

Does what it says it does. I can easily switch Spaces by moving my mouse to edges of the screen, just like I would expect Spaces to do. Thanks for this.

I wish you could set a separate shortcut for the menu and dock rather than just disabling them altogether.

I don't get it. At least not from this description. Why aren't the hot corners that os x gives you just as good?

ok, just noticed this; I only have horizontal spaces, so i'm only going left and right, not up and down. yet, when I hold my mouse at the top or bottom edge, warp still warps my cursor to the other side - obviously without switching spaces. kind of annoying.

this is great, thank you! I do have a feature idea though; instead of either disabling or enabling warp on dock/menubar edges, how about making it so that it'll only switch spaces when you're not moving your mouse around on the dock/menubar. Ie, it'll only warp if you're holding the mouse still, rather than browsing the dock or menu. that'd be clever :)

Great add-on for Spaces. This is one piece of functionality that Apple should have included in Spaces right from the off. My only criticism is that its very easy to jump two or three Spaces when you're trying to move only one. It would be nice if it only automatically moved you one Space and then you had "push" against the side of the screen again to move to another Space.
