iClipboard automatically keeps a history of everything you copy to the clipboard from any application. You can then paste any clipping from the history five different ways: 1) the Shelf on the side of the screen; 2) the special menu in the menu bar; 3) the Rapid-Fire hot key; 4) the Services menu; or 5) Paste Blaster. The choice is yours....Pricing is for a single-user license. A Family Pack (up to 5 users) is also available at $49.99.
What's New
Version 4.1.4:
Improved Welcome window by always showing all three screens instead of just the first time
Improved clarity of option to automatically launch software in Welcome window
Fixed problem with option to automatically open software at system startup
I am giving it 2 stars mainly because of the customer service (or lack of). I have emailed them 3 times in the past month with a very simple questions, and yet no answer. and that's to bad, because I do like working with it. However I REFUSE to shell out 29.99 if I cant get any support.
I’ve also tried a lot of such utilities and so far, this is working well. I had a slight issue and tech support was excellent. Like others, I was a fan if iClip but it is apparently dead. PHTPastboard was good if not ugly. I’m pretty happy with iClipboard and hope the developers continue to refine it.
Tried them all and keep coming back to this the current 4.10 really works well and reliable ram usage has gone down. Will go down more if the paste blaster is turned off. Mine sits around 20-30 meg ram. It is fast and having the shelf as a floating pallet with a key stroke is excellent for heavy duty pasting. I do a lot of graphic and text work and this had not let me down with the v paste problem fixed I give it 5 stars
Been using this ever since iClip was left to die.. (it was revived lately.. but I cannot see why i would give up iClipboard for iClip as it works perfectly). Not sure why this has gotten so many bad reviews... For many years I used CopyPaste.. then iClip.. then iClipboard since version 3. Never failed me. I'm a graphic designer/web designer.. I copy/paste all day-long..
POS. Clips are replicated multiple times -sometimes as many as five or six. I cannot reliably pull-down the menu bar. The company does not respond to requests for assistance. I cannot recommend under any circumstance at this time.
From when i upgraded to version 4, iclipboard disappeared. No way to have it back. It is on, as it is the option to have it visible, but whatever i do, i can not access it again. And when i try to disable it, that's what its control panel says:
"Make sure all dialogs with the service application have been dismissed, then try disabling again".
I probaly will downgrade to version 3, that worked very well ....
My review is for version 4.01 only. I have to say I like this app or at least I did. Actually it does what it says and works consistently. My main complaint is with the current version. Every since the last upgrade each time you delete an item from the list you have to confirm the deletion. I understand this and it's intention but it should be something the user decides is necessary or has the option to turn off. As it is currently it makes the app an inconvenience and as annoying as hell.
If this is not fixed soon I will be looking for a replacement. It's really a shame too, because this is a really good app and the developer should have thought of something this simple before pushing in on users as this behavior was not in previous versions (including version 4.0). I have looked in preferences etc. looking for a way to disable this behavior with no luck. What an oversight!! They need to fix this as soon as possible, this is supposed to be a time saving app not something to make my workflow more difficult!!! CHRONOS ARE YOU LISTENING???
First this about version 4.0.3. only. Well another update and new problems. If nothing else about Chronos is consistent this is, that each update will bring new headaches and problems with the software. Why do I have to have a menu bar icon beginning with this update??? In the past I could decide if I wanted one or not and now I have no choice??? I already have the shelf why do I need two places to access Chronos on one monitor? This may be useful for some I understand that so I am not saying the option should not be there but why do I not have a choice? Almost every app I have gives me that choice except Chronos. Also this update wiped out my saved clips, this is also new. I wonder what horror Chronos has in store for it's next upgrade. I am a SOHO notes user so I should be used to this but it still P'sMO when they do this as it makes it so clear they either do not have a clue or do not give a damn how the customers use the software.
Chronos, adding things in updates is great taking away things that worked and replacing them with questionable things is not so great. Not a problem that some improvements were needed but why did you need to take away things that were working fine? This could all be about the Chronos lack of communication. As other developers sometimes have to remove a function to correct a problem but the successful ones communicate that to their customers with an explanation of the plan to re-instate the removed item or why that is not possible. But not Chronos!
Again this is a good app that needs a few tweaks. The complaints listed below are good places to start Chronos and leave what is working alone.
iClipboard is truly an eye candy, but it felt a little heavy-handed to me. It's a matter of personal taste, but I felt this app had too many bells and whistles. The clip drawer that had been added to the edge of the screen felt a bit too much. Also, I was unhappy to discover that iClipboard added individual clips to Snow Leopard's services menu (after installing and using iClipboard for a while, some of my services disappeared from the contextual menu, so I opened System Preferences—>Keyboard—>Keyboard Shortcuts—>Services, and found that each of my iClipboard's clips was added to the services as "paste [enter clip name here]", or something along these lines. I understand the logic behind it, it's meant to enable the user another method of pasting clips, but personally I'd rather not have individual clips added to the services, either checked or unchecked, and I didn't find how to turn off this behavior).
Many will appreciate this app's extra power-features and its lovely look. There's a myriad of pasting options, such as Paste Blaster for fast pasting, and more. There are clip previews. Also, being able to assign clips to different projects will appeal to many, as well as the ability to rename clips.
However, iClipboard just wasn't for me. I was looking for something more lightweight, while still being able to save selected clips as snippets, so I ended up installing ClipMenu's latest developmental version 0.4.4a12 (which offers cosmetic improvement over ClipMenu's "official" version - the snippet editor has a separate window), and I'm pretty darn happy with it; ClipMenu is now my default clip manager and I'm done looking for replacements.
Is iClipboard for you? The only way to tell is to try it out, I guess. Head over to the Chronos Web site and download a trial version.
The description for this app and the use of the 64 bit logos are pretty misleading. The main clipboard part of the app might be 64 bit but it also has a system preference component to it that is not 64 bit. So every time you want to change a setting for the app the system preferences app has to relaunch in 32 bit mode.
Nice attempt trying to fix "the problem that would cause the Edit Projects window to not work correctly if hiding was enabled in the iClipboard preference pane." Did any of your QCers try moving the mouse around randomly to see what happens?
Well I am still having problems after installing (1.0.2)
I have removed the (.plist) from Preferences and checked the iClipboard Preference Pane and it seems to be the problem. The iClipboard prefPane is only an alias ? Upshot is I still can't access iClipboard Preferences.
At the moment iClipboard is taking up the same amount of RSIZE ram ( 44Mb) as DevonThink Pro
and 2.99Gb of VSIZE ? ) Like the last reviewer I can't always access the clip I want - Seems to get stuck on first opening the iCilpboard tab - sporadic but still a problem.
My requests apart from resolving the issue with the applications preferences would be the ability to reduce the vertical screen space iClipboard takes up and the option of control clicking and removing multiple clips simultaneously. An option to move a clip into a different project rather than 'cut n' paste'. Lastly an automatic close tab option ( this may already exist but I can't access the preferences to be sure ? )
I am also getting a little weary of being an unrewarded Beta tester.
We'd love to track down and solve this problem. If you haven't already, would you mind submitting a support ticket for this issue on our website so we can investigate?
1) The iClipboard Preference pane is located inside the iClipboard application bundle so the alias you mention should actually point to this preference pane. You can see where it points by selecting the alias in the Finder and choosing File > Show Original. We should make sure it's point to a valid file.
2) Does the iClipboard Preference pane icon appear at the bottom of your System Preferences window?
3) When you attempt to open the iClipboard preference pane is anything logged to the Console?
Well thank you for replying, I did as you said and control clicked on the alias - It didn't obviously point anywhere. I control clicked on the application and inside resources found the iClipboard Preference pane and made a new alias from it in the user Preference pane folder.
Now iClipboard's preferences still don't show in system preferences main pane or appear when I click the preferences option pull-down menu from within iCilpboard.
I can't get this thing to even work on my system. It took one clip and that was it. No more clips, no paste, no drag and drop, nada. I also don't like the fact that they have an easy way to buy the product but NO way to report problems. You have to sign up with their web site to ask any questions or report any trouble . I am doing that now and will report on the response i get.
Well this second ( 1.0.1 ) release seems better but now I can't get the preferences to show ( On clicking the preferences option no window - all other windows open, licensing etc..). I also noticed that RSIZE memory is about 28Mb but the VSIZE is a whopping 2.93 Gb what's that all about ?
The site seems to have been updated to show the difference between SOHO Notes and iClipboard which is a bit of a swindle for registered SOHO Notes users. They have less features and if they want iClipboards extras they have to pay for it and run it concurrently with SOHO Notes ( Chronos sticking it to their users ) Very disappointing customer care/public relations.
The copy function is automatically pasting into iClipboard for me. Is your iClipboard set to show "Pause" down at the bottom? When "Pause" is showing the clipboard is working...which is confusing; the naming of the button is meant to tell you to click the button if you want to stop iClipboard from capturing everything you copy. Similarly, if "Resume" is showing then the clipboard is NOT working but invites you to start copying again by clicking on the Resume button.
What I am finding is a delay in iClipboard responding to mouse-over and clicks to show the clip in detail. And also the categories only allow 2 entries (this is a bug that's supposed to be corrected very soon).
So after these rough spots are ironed out, iClipboard should be as good as we hope it will be.
Thanks for the reply. I'm not having any other problems besides the not being able to paste (which is enough). I don't mind the Pause button at the bottom, but I can see where it would throw you off.
I think I just fell in love with the developer. : ) Problem with app one day and the next day there is an update released and problem fixed. THANK YOU.
