Appears to work, but I ran into fish-hooks. My MacBook's TM ext drive initially refused to mount when plugged into a G4 iBook running Tiger. When it did mount and I successfully instructed the MacBook to access it via Airport and ethernet, TM started to recreate the backups from scratch then ran out of room. It's a nominally 160GB drive to back up a 120GB internal with about 84GB used. The 160 already had TM files on board but when mounted as a networked volume those files were ignored. I suspect that the network drive required for TM is better attached to a Leopardised Mac. The drive mounting process seems a bit random and may cause the network connection to hang.

Nice app. Works well and does what it sets out to do. Would be good if it was a menu bar item or a prefPane control just so it can be set as a process to activate automatically.

Other than that works very well. Something Apple should have included for TimeMachine in the first place.

All this app does is turn on a preference that Apple have hidden and turned off by default.

The reason it's off by default is that it has serious bugs-- I have colleagues who have (completely) trashed their backup disks using it, when turned on.

Well I've been using this for weeks and there is nothing wrong with it - albeit a bit slow at times. Plus I can't see it being that buggy considering the announcement of Time Capsule.

Regardless, this does work, and a lot of people were already doing this manually prior to iTimeMachine's release. My experience has been fine with no issues beyond network traffic speeds (which would affect any network app).

I do agree that TimeMachine in general is buggy, and a resource hog - perhaps 10.5.3 will fix those issues

Does what it says on the tin.

Maybe a small help file to explain what the process is doing would be nice but to be honest its just turn it on and you can see network drives from Time Machine Prefs, turn it off and you can't.

Perfect for backing up my Mac Pro to Samba on my NAS server.
