Update to my (8.23.2011) evaluation, and a review of the latest SyncMate 3.6 - Expert Edition- (paid version).

In August of 2011, I evaluated this software (paid edition,) and gave it ½ star due to long standing, and glaring, problems with syncing iCal's repeating (chained) events.

In short, SyncMate duplicates, and/or fails to properly assign events to specific weekdays, for recurring events (e.g, every two weeks.)

Editing a single event (such as canceling it) in the chain of repeating events, is not synced to the phone; the event remains on the phone calendar. To make things worse, putting same event back in iCal (e.g., a single cancelled instance, of a repeating meeting, was reinstated for that weekday) causes duplicates in the phone calendar; two identical events (same calendar) are listed, running side by side, at same time.

It took time, and repeated effort, to elicit a response from the developer; the developer was apologetic and asked for more data (which I supplied.) I was assured that issue was forwarded to actual development team.

Seven months after submitting the bug report, inclusive of log files generated by the program, nothing was done to remedy the problem. No response to my latest e-mails asking for update.

Hence, ½ star for failure to address glaring, long standing issues through two version upgrades (3.5 and 3.6) and reprehensible, if apologetic, customer support.

I want to emphasize that the issues are unrelated to the iCloud or CalDav; the bugs were present before appearance of either change in iCal.

Background:

MacBook Pro 5,2 8 GB RAM, Momentus XT HD
Lion 10.7.3
SyncMate 3.6.1701 (latest as of 4.26.2012)
iCal, as per Lion install.
Phone: Blackjack II with WM 6.0
All deemed compatible by Eltima

I have tried for months to use this. Support is slow, then apologetic. 'Sorry--we had to research your issue.'

Really? Two people, each with a Mac computer, each with a Google acct, and each with an Android phone: we want to sync Google calendar and contacts with iCal and Address Book. How out of the ordinary is that? Isn't that what they advertise?

I have asked very direct, specific questions, and received generic solutions which ignore my questions. Everything results in fixing the messes that result.

Uninstalling everything and starting over was no different.

I wish I could rate this lower!

Hi, we've checked your case and it seems like you did not receive our last reply to the user scenario for calendars synchronization you've sent to us (our Support team emailed you on March 24, 2012). We haven't heard from you after our reply and decided that problem was solved.

Anyway, sorry for this inconvenience, our Support representative has forwarded his reply to you again, please, check your inbox and let us know if you received this email.

We are looking forward to your update.

I use free version for sync of my contacts from outlook on my Vaio. Works fine even with my 1000+ contacts database. I've tried various software but stopped on this one.

It has old and boring interface, but it's ok if you need to get your contacts on your Mac.

I have recently purchased htc hero and wanted to transfer contacts from my old Nokia to it. Syncmate was the only tool I've found. Of course, I had to send contacts on my Mac first, but anyway, it is better than loosing them data at all.

I thought i would give the free version a go before buying, just to sync address books across two macs. All set up easily, nice interface/gui good instructions. 1 Major problem, while it says it has synced it has not synced anything at all. Does not inspire confidence

The issue you've encountered is most probably related to iCloud service you are using. While you are using iCloud service to store contacts from your Address Book they are not physically present on your Mac. Thus it is impossible to use SyncMate to synchronize your contacts with remote devices and online accounts, as SyncMate works only with contacts that actually present in Address Book under Local Mac account.

Some solutions and tips for synchronization with iCloud could be found on our blog:
http://blog.sync-mac.com/post/12327723535/syncmate-icloud-tip-move-ical-events-back-on-mac

We are planning to add iCloud support in one of the future SyncMate releases. The details you may also find on our blog, in the following article:
http://blog.sync-mac.com/post/14219418547/icloud-support-is-on-the-way

In case if I'm wrong and you are not using iCloud, please let us know and we will continue the investigation.

Macmend, am I right with the assumption that your issue is caused by iCloud? Can you remove your one star rating now when you know the possible issue and can test SyncMate for contacts syncing again?

Of course I would change my 1 star rating but you would need to change the description of the software so it clearly states above and on your web page "does not work if you use iCloud"

Eltima Software (developer) replied on 02 Mar 2012
At our website we say that SyncMate syncs data between Mac and supported devices. When your start using iCloud you are informed that contacts will be merged to iCloud and as a result are no longer presented on your Mac. Sorry, but we think it is more than logical, that if data is not on your Mac, it cannot be synced with SyncMate...

I can't connect to my other mac over the network.

"Which device would you like to sync?" I choose another Mac.

I Type its name, just as it shows in my network connections, I type my password as usual.

I "Continue"

and get: "Can't connect."

Whereas ChronoSync finds and syncs the other Mac just fine.

There can be several reasons of this issue. The most common is that SyncMate was not installed on your second Mac (the latest versions of SyncMate must be installed on both Macs).

Try to connect your second Mac using the following instruction http://wiki.eltima.com/user-guides/syncmate-macos/synchronization-with-mac.html

Have you contacted our Support for tech assistance prior to commenting here? Your problem can be easily solved by our Support team, you only need to drop them a line at support@eltima.com

Geneb5, were you able to connect your Macs as advised in SyncMate user guide? Have you contacted our Support team for assistance? I will appreciate if you remove your 1.5 star rating if you can now sync with SyncMate after reading user guide or Supports team help.

I downloaded this software because it mentions I could share internet connection with my WindowsMobile device from WM to MAC, but while trying to connect, it mentions: Windows Mobile device have a self-assigned IP adress and won't connect.

What should I do? Software does not suggest solutions...

Don, SyncMate allows sharing Internet in one direction only - from Mac to Windows Mobile device. All you need to do is connect your mobile to your Mac via USB and Interent will be shared between Mac and Windows Mobile.

I admittedly have way too many devices and just thinking about synching my mac with just one of them made me think of happier thoughts such as my dentist appointment. But having come across syncmate for my mac I can now say that synching all my devices doesn't cause me the slightest bit of dread or thought as it is all taken care of after an initial set-up. I'm not very technically inclined but the interface made sense and I picked things up pretty quickly. Brilliant.

I've been using this software for a month or so with our two new Nokia models that are unsupported on iSync.

However, just noticed that Image Capture is no longer seeing my card reader or any cameras.

After a lot of troubleshooting (complete OS install), have found this software to be the cause of this.

Has anyone else had this problem?

@ WILLOWMAC -

Please, try to perform the following:

1. Connect your camera to your Mac and make sure that your camera is in PictBridge mode.

2. Launch ImageCapture manually and see if your camera is recognized. Please, let us know the result(support @ eltima . com).

3. If ImageCapture doesn't recognize your device even after you launch ImageCapture manually, please, try to disable USB module in SyncMate while working with ImageCapture ("Enable/Disable USB module" button in SyncMate preferences - http://wiki.eltima.com/user-guides/syncmate-mac-os/main-menu.html)

Thank you.

I can't get SyncMate to recognise my imate JAMin.
If I connect the JAMin via USB while Syncmate is open, nothing happens, as if it doesn't recognise it at all.

But if Synmcate isn't open when I connect the JAMin via USB, the system seems to recognise a windows mobile device and Syncmate automatically opens.

But like in the first instance, after Syncmate opens nothing else happens, as if the phone wasn't connected at all.

And in both cases the phone doesn't do anything at all (other than start charging via USB)

Still searching around for a fix but if anyone knows, advice would be appreciated!
