Agreed. Didn't AOL die sometime in the last decade? And who still uses AIM?

Ah yes, I can remember the days of AOL updates. They made great little miniature frisbees. And there were so many of them!

Now if I were to join and get an AOL email address I fear that I'd be laughed out of any social gathering that I drop in on.

Those disks made really swell bicycle reflectors too -- as well as coasters.

Way way back in the late 1980's I was an AOl subscriber, back in the days of the dialup modem. For some reason (which, looking back, I can't for the life of me understand) I resisted the idea of using different apps for different internet purposes (one for browsing, one for e-mail, etc.) so that the idea of an all-in-one piece of software was immensely attractive. But if the idea of the AOL Desktop once struck me as attractive, the interface design and performance never did. Not for a moment. Back then, every single one of its features stunk to high heaven, and I bet the same is true today.

Those were the days alright. I remember the first time they let you use a separate web browser, it was a HUGE improvement to the dumbed down thing that was integrated into the AOL client.

I can't imagine why anyone would use this now? They eliminated all the fun stuff on AOL, like the chat rooms years ago.

AOL 1.7.7 is NOT compatible with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. AOL has no set date for an upgrade; Apple has released 2 upgrades that have not fixed the problem. AOL's troubleshooting page simply says they are working on it. Do not install AOL Desktop for Mac if you have a 10.8 machine.

I installed AOL 1.7 on O/S 10.6.8, with no problems. It was my first install on a new Mac. However, the program is a bare-bones platform of what should be a full service platform. There are problems with Mail already read; Attachments (some go easily while others need to be enclosed in a separate folder); Attachments, when added to an email, show up also in the body of an email, which is done automatically by the program, regretfully; and other issues. The graphics on this program are deplorable.

I tried to install AOL 9.0 Optimized on my new Mac, which is an old program I currently run on my old Mac and 2 PC's, which is wonderful. It would be a blessing if AOL would just take this, tweek it for the current operating system, and forget all the time they are wasting and losing with poor customer satisfaction.

I have been an AOL customer for 25 years, but my patience is wearing out. Shame, shame on AOL for introducing such a poor-quality, inferior piece of software.

Just because once upon a time AOL outlived its usefulness doesn't mean that it can't reinvent itself into something worthwhile. I'm willing to try this with that in mind.

Which Mac users asked for a commitment from AOL? Anyone?

In case anyone isn't sure just what this is, it's AOL's version of the Internet. If the Internet can be symbolized as an alley cat, then AOL is a pampered, neutered and de-clawed house cat that is never permitted outdoors.

Please note folks, this release is BETA and may well have all the pitfalls that entails.

I have not tried this version, so I have no comments in that regard. I do have opinions about AOL, but will express them elsewhere, as most of you are, I presume, looking for User feedback, and not my editorial musings.
