PDF2ID overview

PDF2ID is a PDF document conversion tool for Adobe InDesign. PDF2ID converts PDF documents into a fully editable InDesign file recreating the intended construction and layout of the document.

PDF2ID recreates the intended construction and layout of the document by forming paragraphs; applying styles; regrouping independent graphic elements; extracting images; creating tables; recovering annotations and other elements automatically. PDF2ID converts every page in a PDF file to an equivalent page in the resulting InDesign document.

PDF2ID also provides options for converting or extracting data from a range of pages in a PDF document. You can extract text or images, or convert the entire document to the InDesign format.

PDF2ID enables recovery and reuse of the contents stored in PDF documents making them available for use by anyone. Since PDF2ID is a plug-in for Adobe InDesign it is not necessary to acquire and install additional PDF editing software and tools, resulting in huge cost savings in both time and expense.

PDF2ID is available in standard and professional versions. Pricing can be found here.

I have used this and it failed in importing any of my pdfs into indesign. Totally not worth it.

Way too overpriced. I also think that it should be somewhere in the $30-$50 price range.

This could be a sweet little tool. I appreciate the effort. It is clear a lot of thoughtful work has gone into it. That said, I tried it on three one-page PDFs and it failed on each. (iMac, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.16GHz, 1Gb RAM, OS v10.4.10). Also, unless I *really* lack imagination about the precision that this kind of tool can accomplish, and its potential applications, I would encourage the authors to look at the idea of an end-product that could be priced in the $10-30 range. Perhaps at that mark, enough units could be sold to get close to the profitability of selling just a few to power users at $250. L.
