MakeiPhoneRingtone is a free drag & drop application that allows you to drag AAC ringtones (made with any editor, although Rogue Amoeba hope you use Fission), which then adds it to the iPhone Ringtones tab in iTunes. Then, the next time you sync your iPhone, the ringtones will be ready.

Note: Apple may release a version 7.4.2 patch that makes this program obsolete, like they did with 7.4.1.

All this application does = you taking your iTunes created MPEG4 AAC audio file, changing its extension from .m4a to .m4r and then double clicking on it. Therefor, it is only useful for batch processing.

Awesome! This does its job perfectly... and has done it without having a new iTunes version break it for a LONG time.

Simple and convenient. One thing I would like added, though, is an option to just take the first 40 seconds of the song and use that as the ringtone. Currently, I have to use Quicktime to trim the song and export it back to an MP4.

Great and simple app, nonetheless.

It works fine with the iPhone 2.1 firmware. Just made two ring tones.

Easy to use, just drag & drop. I only wish it could handle other sound formats and just convert to AAC in the middle. Instead I have to use iTunes or Quicktime Pro to do the conversion.

Another great app from Rogue Amoeba, and free no less. I'm guessing they'll have a 7.4.2 compatible version by the end of the day.

DOESN'T WORK

Dragged an AAC ringtone file onto the window and the only thing the application did was to open iTunes. Nothing under the Ringtones tab or anywhere else. As the developer suggested, Apple made this program obsolete. iMac Intel 10.4.11, iTunes 8.0.2

I'm so sorry. I used another application, instead of iTunes, to convert the file to AAC format. This application WORKS PERFECTLY IF you use iTunes to do the conversion.
