Imagine having to move all files in a certain folder into subfolders based on the first (few) letter(s) of the names of those files. For this, one would need to manually create countless smart folders to group the files, manually create all target folders and manually move the grouped files into those folders.
Compare this to a few clicks in TBMFM.

If so - then it will also be great for merging the images from the same set of computers. I have digital pictures from 1998 to present and (depending on who in the house downloaded them to the PC) the naming convention is all but standard.
Again - I hope this is the holy grail I am looking for!!!! But that is why it is different (in theory) from Finder.

For that, I'd like to see more (advanced) splitting criteria though (regular expressions, or at least wild cards for filenames, as well as other file attributes such as size). Also, an option to control the name of the created directories instead of them being generated from the split criteria. This can be done in the preview step which could offer an option to edit the suggested directory names, or beforehand in the hierarchy scheme form using placeholders. The latter would also open a door to creating droplets so one can drop one or more folders onto a desktop icon and have BMFM perform an (unattended) split/merge operation. Finally, it should be possible to do a file move instead of a copy.

the strongest of which is the MOVE option, possibly in addition to COPY....
for me, the whole point of file consolidation is to eliminate duplicates and redundancies...and therefore, MOVE is the way to go....I believe that this should be the first update to BMFM and as soon as possible.
