What's New
Version 1.5: Release notes were unavailable when this listing was updated.
I have one of the earlier releases which works. This one quits every time after setting my preferences to go to MU as my home page. The one I have has a sidebar for history and RSS and works great. No crashes. This one crashes all the time. I tried removing preferences but then just gave up on it as it made no difference.
This project is dead, so I have no idea why beta 3 is just now being made available via MU:
"It is with mixed emotions that I announce the release of Demeter 1.5 Beta 3, which will be the final beta. There are many reasons for this, including issues with old sources and the reemergence of the Shiira developer. I recommend Shiira 2.x to anyone who wishes to continue to use browsers based on this code set. I have release a built binary as well as the source, although I recommend anyone interested in using the source to contact the Shiira developer for updated 2.x sources. The Page Dock is disabled in this release due to it causing a crash, this was fixed by the Shiira developer in his recent releases. I recommend switching to tab mode if you wish to continue using Demeter 1.5 Beta."
I really like the way this browser handles tabs. IMHO it's a much better solution than having a bunch of tabs getting scrunched up below the toolbar. I've been using Demeter for several hours and it hasn't crashed yet. I'm on Mac OS 10.4.11. Once I've filled in a password it's remembered. I look forward to the 2.0 release of Demeter. Hopefully it retains some of the good things about this version.
Importing is back in at a basic level (with a workaround)
Use the Bookmarks Preference pane to enable, some things may require a restart. This will be cleaned up before beta 3, but at least you can use bookmarks from Safari and Firefox.
Hate to have to say this again, but Demeter still crashes immediately upon my every attempt to open it. The earliest version at least worked for awhile.
Also it seems, while I do appreciate it, the person who updated this entry to the beta did not amend the download link. Download it again and make sure the version in the About panel is 1.5
Downloaded Demeter again re developer's suggestion. After two initial crashes it remained stable. However I was unable to make the Bookmarks import work, could not access some of the preferences, and could not change the font sizes. Since I don't use Apple Mail I don't know if that problem has been fixed.
Demeter is the faster Browser that i know, certainly!
But it doesn't work with the Mac keyboard in some sites.
First of all, GMail.
When I try to write a message I cant to use it.
What can I do to write "A" without to see the line of the active area to go up, continuously?
Inusable, at the moment for me!
I live in Europe, I think that this isn't a particular negligible. . . . . .
Demeter is a browser with great promise. When I first start using it, I noticed that it failed to follow an essential script in google mail (gmail). I alerted the developer of the problem and in less than two days, the problem was resolved and a new version of the application was provided fully corrected. The sidebar feature (from Shiira) is great. The iTunes controller shows lots of promise. All I can say is that Safari and Firefox ought to be looking over their shoulders.
A good council: "Been far from this browser, at the moment".
Why?
I have installed it and I have opened it 10 times and always has crashed, also after a "log out" and a "restart".
I have informed Apple.

There's a lot for one guy to handle (and sort out) but it's a great looking browser that has many features "almost there".
It is useable now thanks to the Bookmarks problem being sorted from Shiira days, just the Shelf is in a bit of a pickle as yet.
Has huge potential with it's Plugin architecture, that will more easily facilitate opening this webkit browser up to 3rd party developers.
Has legs ;)
