Since version 1.7 it's a nightmare, now an open project is limited to 64 bits computer and it crashes like crazy!

Rarely ever crashes on me. Make sure your kyngchaos.com frameworks are updated first, before installing a new version of QGIS. If you want the 32-bit version, you can follow the Mac build notes included in source and compile it yourself. 64-bit helps considerably when working with large rasters, especially since the underlying library (gdal) does not support multi-CPUs for many operations.

Tried under Lion - same as SL - crashed at startup. Never saw a splash screen if there is one! Have contacted developers offering to troubleshoot but never heard anything/

Hey Jack - thanks but still no go - I guess I am missing one or more libraries that are need by QGIS? I can't find anything in the ReadMe files as to the specific libraries etc I need to load to run QGIS. The ReadMe seems to assume that you know all this and that you have a running version of the app. I can't even get that far! Immediate crash as soon as I double click the icon. Any help appreciated as I am keen to work on my data sets!

Hi

Go there : http://www.kyngchaos.com/software/qgis

It is the developer page of the QGIS Mac version.

You are probably missing GDAL and GSL frameworks

"Requirements:
GDAL Complete 1.8 framework package
GSL framework
"

thanks for the headsup Jack- the official QGIS ReadMe didn't have these necessary details!
Will load up and see if I can get this puppy to run.
thanks again

I have to agree the frameworks should be bundled next to the application to have everything ready to work. And it also should be mentioned in the Read Me file.

Crashes at startup, documentation not helpful/not relevant in trouble-shooting problematic plugins. Unable to resolve = unable to use, deleted without use.
