ForgetMeNot... When I use Safari, I like to keep a lot of tabs open; but when I close Safari, it forgets what I had open. Consequently, I wrote ForgetMeNot - a SIMBL plugin for Safari which saves the URLs you were visiting when Safari quits, and reloads those same websites for you when you start Safari again.
ForgetMeNot also adds an "unclose window" option to the file menu, and an "undo close tab" option to the edit menu.
What's New
Version 4.2 of ForgetMeNot works with the current version of Safari, namely Safari 3.1.2.
I have been using this plug-in for Safari 2.0.4, and I really miss it on Safari 3.
What it does is simply an option for Safari to bring back all your open tabs from the last session. It's very handy if you like to be remind where you have been looking online last time.
Doesn't Safari 3 already have an undo for closing the last tab, or window? (in Edit & History menus)
I am also not sure what it means to reload the last set of windows you had open when quitting Safari - perhaps when you quit with multiple tabs and ignore the warning about closing a window with multiple tabs?
V.4 won't work in Safari 2 -- unfortunately I need to downgrade to Version 3 again because we keep getting this error message:
Safari 2.0.4 (v419.3) has not been tested with the plugin ForgetMeNot 4.0 (v8). As a precaution, it has not been loaded. Please contact the plugin developer for further information.
Anyone know where the earlier version can be obtained?
Added info to my last post: The cause of the problem was an imcompatibility with another SIMBL plug-in, SafariTabs. Figured that out just before writing to the developer.
Now ForgetMeNot works.
Translation of "unclose" is a little awkward in German. But then, so is probably "unclose" in English.
ForgetMeNot can reload tabs that were open when Safari was last closed. Unfortunately that does not work for a crash. Or so I think after testing with a "force quit":
I opened two tabs. Quit Safari. Restarted Safari. Two tabs were open. I opened a third tab. Force-quit Safari. Restarted Safari. Again, only two tabs were opened.
Very promising functionality: We all know the pain that this little plug-in is supposed to fix.
However ...
- the current version 4 requires Safari 3, which at this point is still beta.
- Version 3 for Safari 2 is not available on the developers website.
- I finally found version 3 for Safari 2 over at VersionTracker.
- Installer failed: "no software to install". I extracted the software from the bundle manually.
- Safari opened and quit immediately.
Too bad. I would have loved to use this software. I will try to contact the author.
That's a fair comment - but there are many still using 2.0.4 - so it's perfect for them.
Safari 3.0 is still (?) Beta until OS X.5 is GM, then launched officially.
This update does not work with Safari 3.0.4, on Leopard. When I restart Safari, the error message says it's not compatible with Safari 3.0.4 so the browser turn it off.
