MovCaptioner keeps repeating a segment of the movie until you are done typing what you hear. Just hit the Return key and it will save your caption and automatically advance to the next few seconds of the movie, allowing you to zip through your captioning tasks in no time flat, the absolute easiest way to create captions for your videos!
You don't need to be a QuickTime guru, either. The caption track is added automatically with the click of a button. And exporting Transcripts compiles all the captions into one concise text file, with or without timecode. If you can type, you

you're probably looking at a 2 year old post from the developer. we got a site license for MovieCaptioner at Penn State and it works great - very stable. It also has more import/export formats than Miyu and is quicker and easier to use. Miyu also has no support (check out their forum). As always, you get what you pay for I guess.
If MovCaptioner should crash on you there is an easy fix.
With the new undo/redo MovCaptioner is supposed to create a folder in your MovCaptioner folder called "Temp". It should create this folder on its own to hold scratch files as you work, then it will delete them all when you're done, leaving an empty Temp folder. If it does not create the folder, it may cause the problem. Make sure that your MovCaptioner folder is in your main hard drive's Applications folder, then simply create a folder called "Temp" in your MovCaptioner folder. That should solve the problem. Opening a previously saved project should also create this folder. I've added this folder to the new zip file so it should be there in the future to prevent this.
Snow Leopard users will need to use the installer that comes with Snow Leopard to install QuickTime 7, as QuickTime X is not yet fully functional and will not work with MovCaptioner.
Site is down today 9/30/08 and will be back up tomorrow.
If you cannot download MovCaptioner today or view the website, it's because I have exceeded my bandwidth limit for the month. Since people found out that MovCaptioner works with YouTube now, I've had a major influx of visitors to the site. It will be back up tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvenience.
It's in the cue. I haven't actually updated to Leopard yet myself (due to other commitments), but am working on tweaking it to work there as well. Keep checking!
If you've tried MovCaptioner before and when you went to try this version you got a message saying your demo has expired, please try downloading the s/w again. I believe I've corrected this problem. Sorry for the inconenience.
Please delete your old MovCaptioner preferences file prior to using version 1.2 if you've used MovCaptioner before. The old preferences file could cause the app to crash on opening. So go to your USER/Library/Preferences folder and delete the file called MovCationerPrefs and you should be fine.

You really should see how to use this before you try it the first time. You should use the Start button instead of the movie's play button and don't click the Cue Next button until you know what it's really for. There is also a brief How To Use MovCaptioner file that comes with the app that's worth your time to look at as well.

Already have transcripts and just need to add them as captions to your movies? MovCaptioner will allow you to import the text as captions, making the job a snap! It will also import other caption formats such as SCC, STL, XML, SRT, QT Text, Adobe Encore, SBV, and SUB to convert to other supported formats.
Now that Final Cut Pro 7 can import SCC files, creating Line 21 captions just got easier as well. Just import the SCC file MovCaptioner creates into Final Cut Pro when printing to tape and you're done!
