Thanks (OSX 4.11).
Since Perian adds only support for decoding formats, I've decided to give these files a nice icon, instead of the default blank one.
If you don't use QuickTime Player and/or Perian to watch your movies, you don't need this app.

Perian's type installer simply allows your computer to recognize file types that QT doesn't support by default as QT files. For example, if you have an MKV file and it's set to open with QT (which will play it with Perian installed), it will still be described as a UNIX Executable file in the Finder because it's not a supported format by default. Perian's Type Installer causes files like this to be properly recognized and labelled as QT files.

It adds icons for filetypes listed here: http://perian.org/#detail and MKV is included.

I'm searching some friend of mine who can compile this script for Tiger too and maybe in a few times I'll post a compatible version. Apologize for that incovenient.

"/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -f /Applications/QuickTime Player.app/"
If you're curious, the command above is mentioned here:
http://trac.perian.org/ticket/163
Note that I haven't actually tested it yet. But logically it should work since it's just specifying the correct patch to lsregister.

thanks...

I have had to uninstall to get EYeTV working again.
Perhaps the components are not compatible??
Maybe in some circumstances Perian results not compatible with EyeTV. My script simply patch the Info.plist and don't add anything else (except for the icons).
