Not it doesn't add any functionality to Quicktime Player. This little app adds only icons for the filetypes for wich is necessary perian to play with QT (this is done patching Info.plist of QuickTime Player.app).
Since Perian adds only support for decoding formats, I've decided to give these files a nice icon, instead of the default blank one.
If you don't use QuickTime Player and/or Perian to watch your movies, you don't need this app.

It's not really clear what you're asking. Like the developer said, Perian's Type Installer doesn't add any functionality to QT. But, if you're using QT (including Pro), Perian _does_ add functionality. QT Pro has many more options for converting, exporting, etc. than the regular version, but it still suffers from the same codec limitations. Perian solves this for you by adding a large variety of codecs to QT's library, making it a VLC-like media player that will handle just about any file format or codec you throw at it.

Perian's type installer simply allows your computer to recognize file types that QT doesn't support by default as QT files. For example, if you have an MKV file and it's set to open with QT (which will play it with Perian installed), it will still be described as a UNIX Executable file in the Finder because it's not a supported format by default. Perian's Type Installer causes files like this to be properly recognized and labelled as QT files.

HOWEVER, if you do not have PERIAN, install that. That DOES add functionality to Quicktime Pro.

Uhm what incompatibility? My script modifies only Info.plist file inside QuickTime Player.app bundle and places some files (the icons) into Resources folder. I don'think this can interfering with Toast

Try with the Administrator account (the first created after os x installation to be clear). So the patch should be applied only once (and after every QuickTime Player update).
I'll try to fix this behaviour but in the meantime try as I said and please report if it works :)

Strange event...I have EyeTV too and I don't have any problem.
Maybe in some circumstances Perian results not compatible with EyeTV. My script simply patch the Info.plist and don't add anything else (except for the icons).

The 2.x versions add "only" a new interface (because of port to AppleScript Studio) and if you have already patched your quicktime don't need this new version.

Run the app, ignore the source code.

Do you have NetBarrier installed? If so, it is the Banner Filter causing the problem and you must turn it off or the download won't start. There are several programs that have the same problem from my experience…

I, too, have problems downloading files hosted on MacUpdate (from any browser). Is there an alternate DL location?

When downloading from sourceforge with NetBarrier's Filters enabled, just change the beginning of the url from to easynews.dl instead and it will work with the Banner Filter on.
