Midnight... When it's time to leave your Mac for a while, you want a nice quick way of putting it to sleep and a little bit of flexibility in how you do it.
Midnight can either put your Mac into its standard sleep mode or into hibernation mode (also referred to as 'safe sleep' or 'deep sleep').
In addition to choosing a particular sleep mode you can choose whether your Mac should switch to the log-in screen before going to sleep.
If your Mac doesn't support safe sleep you can still use Midnight but the hibernation option will be
What's New
Version 1.1.1 of Midnight fixes a bug in normal (non-hibernation) sleep mode where after the first usage Midnight would need to be refreshed before it would allow sleep to be used again.
Requirements
PPC / Intel, Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later.
I don't see the need to turn off airport before sleeping, and turning it back on shortly after waking.
As far as I know, the airport card is already powered down in sleep mode.
People have had success enabling hibernation on iBook G4's by following the guide at:
http://andrewescobar.com/archive/2005/11/11/how-to-safe-sleep-your-mac/
or
http://matt.ucc.asn.au/apple/machibernate.html
Note: This is a hack and is not supported by anyone!
I have not tried it but I see no reason Midnight won't allow hibernation if you do implement the hack (I'm interested to know what happens if you do try it).

Midnight is a clever little fella and can handle all this for you without ever needing to know your administrator's password.
Apple only officially supports safe sleep on the PowerBook G4 (Double-Layer SD) together with all of the new Intel books and desktops, so Midnight does just the same.
