I too found the update quite straight forward and without issue. AFAIK, all is right with the world.
As a note, after installing this update, one may need to verify that his Airport Express (if applicable) is likewise updated to v7.6.1. The DL and install is the same technique as with the base station.
The entire process takes about 5 minutes, during which your heart may stop beating. But just be patient and allow the install and update process to complete without interruption.
Same problem as others. My external drive used for Time Machine now disconnects from my Airport Extreme often. I backed down to 7.5.2 and everything is fine again.
After a couple of days of regular use, it's clear that version 7.6 has the same issues I encountered with 7.5.2: it randomly drops connection for no reason (and immediately attempts to reconnect), thereby rendering any downloads in progress completely useless if your ISP uses dynamically-allocated IPs like mine does. This was the primary reason I downgraded to 7.5.1 before, and I can see I'll have to do so again. I paid good money for a 2010 Airport Extreme only to experience repeated failures as a result of ill-conceived firmware updates. In hindsight, I could have saved a lot of money buying a non-Mac product, and probably experienced better stability in the process. Thanks once more, Apple, for not disappointing my expectations. Let me know when you're ready to drop another firmware bomb.
What's going on here? The MU page's "Update" link merely leads to a descriptive Apple page with no download link, and when I tried to access this via Software Update I was told my software is up-do-date.
Please take the time and study the info provided above a bit closer. The screengrab visualizes what you need to do, and the 'To install the update' section of the text worked quite well for me...
22 days and no fix for the connection timer problem mentioned earlier. I've also encountered another problem since the firmware update: every few days the Airport Extreme loses its connection somehow, and I have to reset my ADSL modem. It doesn't seem to matter if I am wirelessly connected at the time or not, so the problem isn't related to the AirPort Utility update. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be welcome.
It's worse than I suspected; I've gone into the logs for the AirPort Extreme, and discovered that it is sporadically disconnecting and reconnecting - refreshing the IP at random - without any direction from me. According to the log, it has disconnected 16 times in the past 43 hours, and failed to reconnect three of those times, leaving me with a dead modem that must be reset. I never experienced this behaviour before the firmware update/AirPort Utility update. Given that some of these instances occur when I am not wirelessly connected to the network ie when the AirPort Utility cannot possibly be interacting with the Base Station - I am inclined to believe the problem is the firmware update. Although the problem is more likely to occur when I am not actively using the network, it has occurred in the middle of a download at least once already, and may explain why some downloads behave strangely despite the continuous green light on the base station.
I must also note: now 50% of jobs sent to the printer I have connected to the base station never print; I end up having to cancel the print job and try again. This isn't even a wireless problem, per se; it happens with jobs sent from an ethernet connected iMac. Once more, never had a problem before the firmware update.
I posted this under the AirPort Utility update as well. Anybody else notice that after the updates the "Time Connected" no longer displays correctly? Not sure if this is a result of the AirPort Utility update or the latest AirPort Extreme firmware update, but since the updates, the timer no longer resets when I disconnect and reconnect. I have a dynamic IP, and I like to know how long I've been connected via a given IP. Instead, now I can tell exactly how much time has passed since I made the software/firmware update ;) Any suggestions on how to correct this would be appreciated.
I recently updated the firmware in my time machine (to 7.4.1 I think), and now I can't connect. The airport on my MacBook spends all its time scanning but doesn't find my network; I can't even connect to the time machine by ethernet (I simply can't find a disk!) And now, I can't reset to factory (every time I start, the time machine tells me that there is a problem with the ethernet), and the ethernet link to the modem is now not operating.
Usually I am the biggest Mac fan, but this incident has really annoyed me. I may have to go out tomorrow, and get a basic airport express to act as a proxy until i can get the time machine issue addressed.
Upgraded from 7.1.1 to 7.2.1. All of a sudden, I couldn't connect to my wireless network. Checked config, did a hardware reset, no go. I get that "Try Again" message from my MBP.
I normally use 5GHz N-only mode. However, 2.4GHz mixed mode and 5GHz A/N mixed mode work fine!
I tried turning off authentication, with no help. I even reverted back to 7.1.1, and the same problems continued. Right now I'm running with A+N support to get the damned thing working at all.
It turned out to be my own stupidity. I reinstalled my OS and didn't realize I had to re-run the Airport Extreme enabler as well, so I had no 802.11n support. Now if I could only get these throughput problems sorted out...
Damnit.. I was hoping it would be something different. I definitely have 802.11n enabled but I'm seeing exactly the same behaviour as you were.. not sure what to do next.

The version # suggests there could be other changes that Apple has hasn't told us yet... Such as the rumored download caching for iOS devices?

So, how do I reliably downgrade?

Has anyone else encountered anything like this?
